On the down side we havent really captured our transfer targets and have a few holes in the squad that I would bet BR want to fill with quality as soon as possible

You'd think the window was closed :|

Well we are talking about pre-season which effectively ends at 5pm today, but yes we still have plenty of time to get players in after that which I kind of hinted at with "fill with quality as soon as possible"

This season is going to be a frustrating, long, hard slog with moments of brilliance and moments of despair.

Before the substitutions started to disrupt the flow, every single Reading player looked more comfortable passing and receiving and being in possession of the football than they have been in the last couple of seasons.

In one month that is amazing progress for Rodgers to have brought about.

Cisse looked like a calm-headed proper footballer for goodness sake - remarkable!

This season is going to be brilliant.

Quite. Anyone who can get Cisse to pass the ball straight for the majority of the match is clearly a genius.

I didn't see the game but i did see last seasons PSF against Villa when I saw the same. It's a freindly and players do very much treat it as much. More time and space on the ball than they'd usually get. I am going to judge over the coming months whether there is a sea of change in the style. Not overly impressed with 1 up front.

Are you looking forward to the season Rother? Or is it just because Reading have a bunch of kids playing..........

What is this obsession with us playing 1 up front? That is just plain wrong - we play a continental 4-3-3 and there was more attacking promise today than the whole of the second half of last season.

Rodgers is on the right track and I am even more sure now that the season is going to be brilliant!

In the pre-match bit on Chelsea TV they interviewed Rosenior - he said that everyone in the squad feels they have become better footballers in the last month.

It showed during the game.

If todays game is anything to go by, then next season will be exciting.

Thats not like Rosenoir to come out with some media friendly drivel is it?

I wait with baited breath to hear any player not big up their new manager when interviewed

Did the evidence of your own eyes not indicate the truth of what he said?

Not really

Rosenoir, Long and Kebe didnt look any different to last season

Tabb and Gunnar looked pretty much the same too, fresher and playing in a different role, but I didnt see actually see anything different from them

Pearce looked good, as he did in a few short bursts last season, and Cisse looked a bit more with it than last season but in typical style he also played one pass straight to a Chelsea player in the second half when he tried to play a ball back to Pearce or Bikey

The youngsters added a new zest to our play yes, but I didnt see anything from any player that I thought was different to previous pre season games

What did you see that made any of last seasons squad look like they had improved in the last month?

BTW, I think BR can get more out of this set of players and the above isnt a criticism of him, its just that I didnt see anything different from individuals. I did see us play in a different shape and with youngsters adding that spark we didnt have last season when the whole squad lost confidence and the edge they had before

Rosenior couldn't have gotten worse.
