Forever Reading The obvious question is, has anyone checked him out in football manager yet.

I think the obvious question is "What has he been accused of?".

Easy to see the comparison with Doyle. Moves well, runs well with the ball and composed in front of goal.

Could be a gem.

There won't be for a trial - may get mentioned when he plays in the reserves but these sort of things don't tend to be officially announced.

I heard he was bang into his Diesels in the 80's and early 90's.

His favourite engine was 47647 'THOR'

Presuming he's the one on the right.... (the Esbjerg pitch seems to have a bit of a slope about it).

And some spiel from Wikiland....

Born 1st April 1982

Thorvaldsson started his career at ÍBV in his hometown of Vestmannaeyjar. After establishing himself as the best striker in the Icelandic Premier League, he was transferred to Halmstads BK in Sweden in 2004. Here, he only narrowly missed out on the league title in his first year and won the Swedish golden boot in the following season (with 16 goals). He also featured in the club's UEFA Cup campaign of 2005/06, scoring a vital goal in the qualifying round victory over Sporting.

This brought him to the attention of several clubs from around Europe, before he eventually opted to move to German side Hannover 96 in March 2006 in a 3 year deal. His time in Germany however has been blighted by persistent injuries; he only managed to make 7 appearances and wasn't able to score a single goal. In August 2007, after only 17 months with Hannover, he was loaned to Vålerenga. In the summer 2008 he made a move to Danish club Esbjerg fB.

He made his international debut on March 30, 2005, as a last minute substitute in a goalless friendly draw with Italy in Padova. His first international goal came in a 4-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Malta on June 8, 2005. He's scored 5 in 20 internationals.

The Esbjerg site says he is quick, aggressive, confident with the ball and physically strong.

Judging just on those clips I'm not impressed.

The first goal in the first clip looks like a static ball-watching defence. The second goal, good strike, but I'd question what the hell a striker is doing breaking to attack the ball late on the edge of the box rather than being in the box for a cross in the first place.

Second clip looked like it wasn't a particularly well struck shot (not in targetting, but power) that the 'keeper really should have saved.

The third clip is a predator's goal from yet more comedy defending IMO

Oh and the fourth one... Very well taken first touch shot with good movement to give him space. But he was obviously playing against a team of clowns the way they repeatedly gave the ball away cheaply in dangerous positions to conceed. And showed no desire to win it back.

IcelandicStokie Thorvaldsson: Reading wouldnt sign me because I was a replica of Kevin Doyle

„This is what I have been waiting for and hopefully a longawaited dream will now come true,“ Thorvaldsson told Icelandic newspaper Fréttablaðið shortly after arriving in England yesterday.

Reading have been following Thorvaldsson ever since he made it big in Sweden in 2005 and come close to sign him once but opted not as he was regarded too similiar to former Reading striker Kevin Doyle.

„They thought I was too similiar to Kevin Doyle and they didnt see the need to get another player with the same attributes. But he has now moved on and hopefully I get the opportunity to fill his shoes.“

Thorvaldsson got to know german goalkeeper Robert Enke quite well during his stay in Hannover and he was shocked to hear of his death.

„I couldnt believe it. I was numb after I heard it, it struck me hard like for everyone else. He was a good man and its clear that Germany has now lost its best goalkeeper.“

:o ! A while back whilst watching him play for the Icelandic National Team I considered him to be The Icelandic Kevin Doyle, and wished for us to sign him as that would have been some strike force!
News that he's on trial with us has made me very excited as a while ago he was of almost a similar standard to Doyle IMO! I don't know what has happened to him over the last year, but even so, he could be a fantastic addition to our team! :D

BRENDAN, SIGN HIM UP!

Which is why judging players based on Youtube clips is probably not the way to go !

If he is any decent then we'll offer him a deal. Simples. That's the great thing about trials.
