8/10 , even the low points were enjoyable in a way....

Tbh all the home games under Rodgers just blend into one long game of no chances and plenty of 1-2's between Pearce and Bertrand

Crazily, it's a 7 for me too. The first half was horrible, but even back then it was apparent that we had some decent young players and that the academy was bearing fruit.

I'd expected us to finish around 8 - 10th at the beginning of the season, so have no complaints about our final league position. Indeed, the way things have been going - plus having a decent manager in charge - make me more optimistic about the future than I would have expected a year ago. I think the club's in pretty good shape, in spite of our appalling 2009.

Yep - agree with the above.

The second half was great - and greater than it might have been because the first half was so crap.

Archie's penalty
Hampshire Royal If the season had happended the other way round, ie brilliant the first half and dire the second half, leaving us fighting relegation, then it would have been 1 or 2. However, the fact that we experienced the low first half being replaced by the fantastic second half, I would give this season 8 or 9. In spite of what people are saying we still have a chance of the play offs and could again go into the last game of the season not knowing what division we'll be playing in next year. The rest of the world seems to have written-off our play off chances so surely we, as Reading fans, need to counter that and believe (at least until Saturday).

Or until tonight when we might draw or lose.

That's defeatist talk, AP.

I fully expect us to trounce Scunthorpe tonight. But anything is possible.

Under Rodgers: 2/10

Under McD: 10/10

10 + 2 = 12. 12/2 = 6. +1 for the feel good factor at the end and hope for next season = 7

Awesome 1st half and shit 2nd isn't as good, I've been through that too often.

1 point for Swansea or 1 win for Blackpool will end it. Winning our final 3 will not be enough. I could rule it out so much that I'll vow to eat my left testicle if we do it; that's the bigger one if you wanted a good measure of my confidence.

Good maths. Presumably if the season had happened the other way round, the feelgood factor would have been -1 and your overall score would have been 5?

I suppose so, although in hindsight a 5 would have been generous for last season or 04/05.

The funny thing is, we got into the play-offs last season whereas this season we look very much unlikely to make it. How does it make the feelgood factor worse?

.. because the journey is as important as the destination ... ?

This season is objectively worse than last - we've scored less points, not won any cups, won less games, lost more games - there's very little argument.

But last season sucked donkeys. It was a joyless thrash as we progressively got worse, with players who didn't want to be there.
It's not 'funny', at all, it's a perfectly understandable response.

Last season was ultimately disappointing to have failed to have gone up, to have finished poorly and to have had players who should have been much better under performing and wanting out.

I'd still rate it as a good season though, because we achieved my pre-season expectations and were awesome in parts.

This season started terribly, but we've come back really well to finish on a high and probably slightly exceed my pre-season expectations. This season has been about rebuilding and some really good foundations have been laid. Which is why I'd rate this one as a 7 (Rodgers 3 / McDermott 10) compared to last season as a disappointed 6, just shy of a 7.

I cannot believe that we are the 5th top scoring team in the league this season so far.

To be fair, we were like like 12th last week LOL.

Tbf we've probably had the most exciting season in the football league, other than Rochdale!

Relegation Bound to Possible playoffs in 3 months. Not to mention The FA cup!

8/10, First part of the season still hurts from what could've been!

Surely depends upon the time horizon. Take a short view (say, the last eight years), and it's hardly the greatest. No nerve jangling promo or relegation issues at season end. Probably the lowest league position since 03.

Take the long view - the long years of toil down in the bottom divs - and it marks one of the best in the club's history.

To me, the last three months have been one of the most fascinating and heart warming in my 35 years of supporting RFC. To see a shambolic, disjointed third div-bound mess so rapidly turned into a promising, coherent promotable whole - and feel part of a support that has re-discovered its joy in turning up to the ground after the grind of the previous two second-half seasons - has been a delight. For that, and for the long view, and most of all for watching the emerging talent that is Sig, I give it an 8.

9

mainly for the epic cup run

and looking back on where we were in jan it makes me feel really positive for next season and i think the second half of the season has been a good build up for next year. and seeing all the youth players starting to come through and really deliver has been a really big positive

Tommy Youlden's Ears Probably the lowest league position since 03.

 :|

In 2003 we ended up 4th.
In 2004 we ended up 9th.
In 2005 we ended up 7th.
In 2006 we ended up 1st.....

If we finish 8th, your statement would be incorrect.

Not sure the shock and roll was needed Spacey. Note the use of the word "probably"
