sandman Thinking about it we must have a bad academy given that Liverpool have shown interest in two of our academy graduates in the past two years and their current first team manager played a part in setting it up.

Who are those that Liverpool were interested in?
Pearce was the only person in the world who thought Liverpool were interested.

Gylfi?

Gylfi was the first before he chose Spurs and I know for a fact there was genuine interest from them in Pearce.

Commiserations for the loss last night btw.

Pepe the Horseman They were probably instructed to cut it off there, before our hoofball ruined everyone's development.

Some of you blokes have got a terrible inferiority complex when it comes to other clubs.
Every week there are postings about the opposition, Leeds this, Brighton that,Forest this QPR that, always trying to put the opposition down over normally very trivial matters.

Last night as a person very interested in both sides I watched the game on LFCTV and it was just about as unbiased as you could get.
Last Saturday morning I watched the Liverpool U21 game v Man Utd and again there was no great bias.

Neither of the commentators went on about Reading playing long-ball and just because some twat on twitter suggested that Reading played that way then suddenly the divs are up in the air.
Incidentally it was good to see a Reading side not playing long-ball but the result would probably have been different if the keepers had swapped sides.

Hopefully if we end up playing Fulham there will not be a big hang-up about Al Fayed's millions making the difference in being able to attract young players to their successful academy in recent years and the fans will just enjoy Reading doing well.

I don't blame them for being biased, but if you think there was no great biase then you are deluded.

Blimey, what a game of football. Reading U18's V Liverpool U18's in the FA Youth Cup. Reading 2-0, then Liverpool bring it back to 2-2 in injury time. Liverpool go 4-2 up in extra time, then Reading back to 4-4 with 3 mins remaining. Reading win 5-4 on penalties. Unlucky young Reds, but fair play to Reading youth, they never gave up. In other news, apparently there was some Champions league footy on too!

presumably all the academy youngsters sat in the stand wouldn`t have needed a ticket so wouldn`t have been counted.

Rodgers was clearly trying to butter up McCarthy before they got Mignolet in too.

Yeah if only keepers weren't part of the XI and each team was randomly assigned a goalie

Liverpool would also probably have won if they had Cardwell, or our defenders, or if their subs had been as good as ours. And our strongest area is midfield!

No, the difference was the 2 keepers, Reading's was very good Liverpool's rather poor.
Seeing your earlier report it's quite clear that you (rightly) were caught up in the emotion of the night and your judgement of the teams was way out as if Reading had won 10-0 when in fact the game was drawn after 120 minutes.
It's a bit like some of the weekly BFTG posts where fans have been pissed out of their heads and haven't been able to make a sensible analysis of a game.

Given that Liverpool's first goal came from a mistake by Ward I'm not sure I agree with that assertion at all.

Ward made one fantastic save. He wasn't outstanding.

On the Liverpool forums, they are bemoaning that they don't have a striker as clinical as Cardwell (partially because Sinclair is injured) and that their defence was terrible (it was).

Of the goals, two (one for each team) were the direct results of players suffering from cramp. One of theirs was an absolute worldy. Their other two came from our full backs being too stand-offish (from memory). Our other three came because of severe defensive lapses from them. The first saw Cardwell go past one player about three times, the second saw their whole defence switch off and appeal for offside rather than playing to the whistle, and the last saw McLennan totally unmarked after they failed to stick a leg in. Furthermore, their defenders were very poor on the ball.

Based on those three things, I think it is fair to say we were superior in defence and attack. Though I guess it doesn't matter how serious the defensive error is, I'd much rather concede goals due to minor errors from one player than huge errors from a whole defence. The only area in which Liverpool were up to our standard was midfield, where our creative players didn't perform (and credit to Liverpool for that).

Liverpool's keeper looked very poor. Just sold himself so cheaply as the strikers were about to pull the trigger.

And having watched the 15 mins of highlights on LFCTV, their main commentator was remarkably fair - even sounded excited as we scored the 3rd and 4th.
