Archie's penalty
Dirk Gently The fact that he's happy to talk a club like Stoke suggests that he feels his place in in the PL - with any PL club.

An excellent point DG. He got the Prem-bug and can't survive without it anymore.

Still will be pretty sad to see him go to Stoke!

I didn't notice this bit before, but whats this arrogance all about.

Why shouldn't he look at going to a club like Stoke? They're no worse a club than us and he wasn't criticised for playing for us!

Maybe, just maybe Kitson's exceptional arrogance, has rubbed a few people the wrong way these last few years.

Comments like I don't like footballers, are not going to go down too well with a group mainly consisting of past and present footballers.

As far as we know Kitson's been demanding a move all summer, do you really want someone obviously so up himself, when your trying to improve team spirit? He clearly wants to leave.

There are no strikers in the Champ close to Doyle and Lita (except McFadden if he stays), Long should be great in the Championship. Our strikers didn't score last season cause we had the worst midfield in the league. If Coppell actually signs the midfielders we need, we're not going to struggle to score goals.

Spend the money from Kitson on a winger and a midfielder, maybe get a striker on loan, or give Robson Kanu a go. Then spend the money from Shorey on the defense. It's not hard, Coppell just has to actually buy these players.

andrew1957 I could just about live with us accepting £6M for Kits but £2M from Stoke with no guarantee of any more would be an absolute joke considering Zamora went for £6M and Kitson is just as good if not better.

We must hold out for more or refuse to sell.

And Zamora has scored twice as many Premiership goals.

£4m for a striker whose had half a good season at that level is ok.

Do you really believe that?

I'll give you one more for starters - Sylvain Ebanks-Blake.

This is going to hurt a little bit, but Stoke are a bigger club than Reading. They have more fans than Reading. They probably have more money. And I think they might do alright next season.

However I still believe that once Kitson sees Stoke himself (and his missus) then he will change his mind.

Regarding my personal Stoke watch, I can't report much more than they are definitely signing someone. Apparently not Scott Carson as they have someone else lined up...

I doubt he'll live in the centre of Stoke anymore than he lives in the centre of Reading now. There are some lovely places nearby.

Now I can't remember Kitson's exact words, anymore than you obviously can't. But the gist of what he said was that most footballers have known nothing but football and see themselves as somehow better than 'ordinary' people. Whereas he had a life before football where he experienced what it's like to do the sort of job that many of his fans do amd so he has more of a conection with them than the 'football and only football' bunch.

As far as we know, Kitson hasn't been demanding a move all summer and is perfectly happy to stay at Reading and try to help us regain our PL status.

SpaceCruiser How do you even know he doesn't want to play for us??? :|

Derived from more speculation?

Because if he wanted to play for us the he would stay.

Copps has already said we do not need to sell, therefore if kits leaves it will be his choice.

But we can be as sure as anything he hasn't told his agent not to take any calls from potential purchasers in the PL!

Surely the "purchasers" have to contact the club and not the agent in the first instance? Obviously some clubs won't follow all the rules but I expect most would.

I think we can take comfort that the OS keeps on saying he is ill. They would've only mentioned it once if it was false and then kept quiet about it. So far, i say Kitson is staying.

Of course, that's the official way it works, but in the real world of course managers telephone agents and agents telephone each other and say "If ......., would your boy be interested."

An awful lot of business in football is done through informal networking and personal contacts instead of official channels - just as it is in most other businesses.

I'm not sure he'd fail a medical due to a cold though.
Being a little under the weather and not playing wouldn't preclude him talking to other clubs.

His first comment along these lines was made about 3 years ago IIRC when he said that he had nothing in common with footballers and had no intention of maintaining social contact with them, either during his career or once it had ended.

No way near Doyle.

Doyle is a top quality centre forward, who with confidence and service (of which he had none last season) will score goals in the Premiership. Against Championship defences he should have the time of his life. There will be no centre half he can't out pace or out muscle.

The same with Lita, he I think is really underrated, especially as a target man.

1/ Zamora and Pantsil went for a combined £6.3M - as Pantsil was unwanted and could not get a game I would spilt that 6M and £300K.

2/ Zamora PL record is played 97 scored 18 times
Kitson - played 47 scored 12 which is considerably better on strike rate.

If we sell him, it will be because he wants to leave.

There's no debate about that...

I'd agree that Doyle will be a real handful for any defence in the Championship IF he recovers his confidence.

I'm not sure he'd outmuscle Andre Bikey though ! Recognising that the situation shouldn't arise !
