Those that were demanding that BM should be sacked after the Villa game have gone a bit quiet. The personal abuse aimed at Leigertwood doesn't seem to be there today either.

We're still in a hell of a relegation scrap, but McDermott was always as likely as anyone to get us out of it.

Is brian gay? Good luck to him, I say.

If he keeps us up I'll be gay with him if he likes.

I prefer to wait until the end of the season to judge whether it was a good decision not to sack him. The recent results have been encouraging, however we are still in the middle of a relegation battle and it is shaping up to be 3 from 5.

QPR - Have the money to try and buy themselves out of it and are improving all the time.
Aston Villa - Big club, and hard to see them going down
Newcastle - As above
Southampton - Were doing well and looking likely to pull themselves away from danger, but who knows with the new manager
Wigan - Always seem to escape the drop.

I stick by my opinion at the time, and think he should have gone, however once it became clear he was going to get the transfer window, there was no choice but to back him.

Sometimes people have very short memories and I remember the poll after 1 game showing 70% of the Hon Nob Massive wanted him out. His signings in the summer have not worked out that well either and are only now startint to integrate into the team, but not all of them. We have also seen the hoof ball football with no plan B for most of his games, plus the dropping of Pearce, fall out with Guthrie and dropping the Pog who has scored some crucial goals and lead the line well.

I still think we will be relegated as we simpy have no margin for error with our remining games and this is all down to our performance in the first half of the season and the buck for that stops with the manager.

I would, however love to be proved wrong.

That sounded like a Brentism. Made me smile.

I don't think anyone's been wrong.

If you want to be cold, clinical and ungrateful then yes sack him and get a big name in as soon as we go up, or soon after.

If you have an ounce of a soul you'll want the genius who took us up against all expectations to have his shot that he has earned.

Either way there is one thing to remember: we are same old little Reading, doing things in scared little Reading way, not spending much. Burns, Brenda, and many others will collapse under such restraints. Not Brian. I think he's done immensely well. A typical Reading manager. Just what we need. I don't think others could cope.

LONG LIVE SIR BRIAN!!!!!!!

^ and to add.

How do big-name managers become big-name managers if they are never given the chance?

There's been more negative sh*t on here this season than I can ever remember, most of which has already been shown to be complete bollox whether we are relegated or not

Big Ern ... it is shaping up to be 3 from 5.

Three from those five sounds about right, Ern. Good analysis.

No keep him in. He is doing a cracking job.

The thing is, with THAT contract, can they afford to replace him even if they wanted to. They could even be stuck with him for a few years should they go down.

He's already proved it was a good decision to keep him. He's made the tactical and personel changes he needed to and he's got us picking up results. I thought it was time to say goodbye after Sunderland, that was a bit of a nadir for us, but since then we've been far better. We no longer look like we're clueless and will go down with barely a whimper. We no longer look like we'll struggle to get to 20 points let alone the 37 ish we'll probably need to survive.

That's more than good enough for me gien what a good bloke McDermott is and his previous record with us. Be nice if he could get a decent start to the next season though.

Great post change

Do you honestly think those who were calling for his head want him to fail and see us relegated?

It is far too early to give the sarcastic "told you so" as we are still in the bottom 3. I suggest you wait until the end of the season to give it large to those who thought he should go as we are still far from safe.

If we do survive, I will be the first to put my hand up and say I was wrong at the time, and as mentioned, I would LOVE to be proved wrong.

Sorry but most of us were backing Brian & were hating the fact we even thought about getting someone else. Many people started questioning him when he persisted with 4-4-2 at the start of matches & we were getting overrun in midfield but still backed him if he changed his tactics a bit.

(I include myself in that)

He has since clearly shown he is learning & getting to grips with it all. To get rid of him would be almost as stupid as Saints ditching Adkins.

So pleased that JM/AZ aren't knee jerk.

Quite frankly I see him going on to bigger & better things in future but I hope we keep him as long as possible.

Not hard given how abject they've been otherwise. Still bottom by 4 points and 5 points off safety.
Big Ern Aston Villa - Big club, and hard to see them going down

Tell that to Newcastle, West Ham, Leeds et al that people said the same about and still they went down.
Big Ern Newcastle - As above

Ditto
Big Ern Wigan - Always seem to escape the drop.

Only takes one failure to buck the odds.
