What does any Chief Exec do?

Schmoose, press the flesh, make spending and budgetry decisions and have department heads report to them and give them direction in return.

Parky was on 30k a year at Charlton last season, with massive bonus' if he kept them up. As far as im aware from a very good friend of his, he has the same deal this season, but with promotion.

Hang on.

Right Coppell was being forced into excepting a big pay cut (the 40% was just for players), which it stated in his contract he had to take if we went down.

The demonstration allowed him to renegotiate this, by saying look I can just walk away and the fans will blame you, which was also in the contract.

But then I don't know what I'm talking about do I?......

You're not even in my top 10 most disliked mate. You obviously do work in the game and you can certainly provide some interesting insite. But that doesn't mean I have to agree with or take everything you say as gospel...

I am getting confuesd, I do easilly, too much Local Malt !! Players took a 40% pay cut on relegation from the Prem ?? so what is all this guff about players leaving, who were on Premiership salaries ??? tht wasnt another load of bollox from the always very verbal PR dept' was it ?????

People would be surprised how low the average Champ wage is.

Also certain players got new contracts after the cut, we paid Kitson and Liitle's salary to near full.

10k is a very, very high Championship wage.

I'd be surprised if our top earners were on more than 6k a week.

Pay more than doubled on promotion, then more signings were made and more contracts negotiated in the second season. Quite possible contracts had a survival increase in them... we didn't lose many higher earners pre-relegation, but gained plenty that would have been on Prem wages...

Even not taking into account further increases after we'd achieved promotion, that still left us with a wage bill more than 10% higher than when it was one of the biggest in the Championship...

That might be a tactic that some would have adopted but it doesn't sound at all like Coppell's style. What's more, it's completely at odds with some of the quotes that appear in the 'On a Wing and a Prayer' book.

That aside, it wouldn't have worked if the club had called his bluff. The fans would have been told that Coppell had made up his mind to go and that they had been unable to persuade him to change his mind. Given Coppell's personality and previous record, plus the fact that many expected him to walk, few would have disbelieved that statement. The only thing that would have stopped that would have been if Coppell had made a statement of his own contradicting the club and blaming them for his departure - once again that is not his style.

Semantics at play here.
The original claim that Coppell negotiated a bigger deal than he had when we were in the Prem seems bizarre and implausible.

If however what was meant that he managed to negotiate a smaller reduction that may be closer to the truth.

Given the small number of people who actually would know I place it in the bulging category of speculation.

The claim that Parky works for 30k at Charlton is another amazing one. No idea whether it is true but you would imagine it is not as simple as that.He must have loads of bonus clases built in (paid per point / goal / league position / cut of transfers / size of home crowd etc etc).

Would be great if any of these claims were ever backed up by decent evidence but I understand that is probably not possible for good reason.
