think mikele is settling in well, and has added a bit of steel, and solidity in the middle, nothing spectacular, like a harper who can tackle,

get him in, 2 year contract, 10k a week. this management lark is easy innit

I would guess that even £10K a week would be beyond our means. Rasiak was on about that and shipped out to balance the books.

Snowball There's a player did quite well in Scotland as a winger and striker.
He then played at the top end of the championship in a side that
came fourth and made the play-offs. Quality finisher.

He scored 13 goals despite only playing 29 Starts, each just 60-65 minutes
and is as brave as they come.

He had major surgery last year and has come back carefully,
and is now fully fit, and scoring goals for fun, 3 in his last 3 games.

I have it on good authority he will play for RFC without any fee involved
and any increase in our wage bill. Nice bloke too. And Irish.

A goal every 200 minutesI Woohoo!

Big Foot Yep - although needs to calm down slightly with his passing. If/when he does that, he could play for a top 10 Premiership side.

What - Blackpool? wow!

On no hang on they're 11th.

Sounded like he wasn't quite at his best today, giving the ball away and not on target with his passing, mainly first half.

Still hope we snap him up in Jan, adds a bit of steel to the midfield and would be a step forward.

He was a curate's egg. Highly involved, often supporting the attack, getting
some good tackles in, but today Elwood and Karacan just didn't gel and simple
passes were going wrong.

What worried me was neither Elwood or Karacan seemed to be the holding player.

Hull's midfield outplayed us and we always looked outnumbered

(apparently he had a hamstring problem, hence he eventually went off and missed the Swansea game)

It's amazing what a player can achieve if he has the backing from the gaffer and is given the games he requires under his belt to be able to reach his potential, such as Woodenleg and Long!

Sounded like he didn't have a good game today and lost the ball frequently, however he was one of the best players on the field against Bristol City, just needs to start being more consistent in games!

I can't say it was a case of "building a team around Siggy". We needed to play Siggy because he was class, but we tried to make a 442 side play 451 and it often showed. This is why it seems odd to talk about a Siggy replacement. Surely you look at your players and play the best system to suit them. We have 4 classic wingers Kebe-McAnuff backed up by HRK and Antonio and 4 strikers born and bred to play 442. Long and Hunt, backed up by Church and Bignall. True a 6' 2" bomber would be nice, but other than that all our players look suited to 442.

We are maybe a tad light in midfield for 442 in that we have Howard (good player but lightweight) and Tabb-Karacan, both excellent DISRUPTIVE, in-yer-face buzz-saw players but not really the type to ever slow a game down, think, and pick out a great pass. We could do with a serious "destroyer" and a fairly strong but creative type.

If we play 451 it must be Hunt in the hole. Hunt on his own up front will be battered and end up out injured.

Long needs a sniffer like Hunt to get some goals and take the pressure away.

I suspect then Long, too will start scoring more

Elwood has stiffened the midfield, Hunt is doing the support bit, and bingo!

Snowball He's a very good player and showed it today. He'll make us a better team and we'll get more points when he plays

LOL this is the Polar opposite of what I think. He looked like a crap player and showed it yesterday, making us a worse team and I think we'll pick up less points with him in the team. Come 26th January one of us will be proved right. No doubt you'll be posting the stats...

Played 6, unbeaten, WON 3 Drawn 3. Scored 9 conceded 4

Two clean sheets in six when he was still regaining match-fitness.

Lost the game he didn't play in

442 really starting to work.

Long has had six goals, Hunt 1, Church 1. 8 goals for the "2" in 6 games.

I'd say the transformation has been remarkable.

Brian Mcdermott said: "I feel that we want to play two ways, 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 and to play 4-4-2 we need to play someone that's really strong in the middle. Now we have a player who can play that role no problem at all, he's got loads of games behind him and it gives us that alternative to play either way comfortably. That was the reason we got him.

Looks like Brian was right.

Ipswich have allegedly bid a million for Leigertwood so if true we would probably have to give up McAnuff if we want him.

Not sure whether we would do that so Tabb's chances of a new contract have just increased.

Tabloid talk. Ipswich fans have said their owner isn't willing to give that sort of money to Roy Keane to spend at the moment.

Sheesh, I hope that isn't true. Mind you, why join a side in danger of relegation?
Either stay at Reading, good chance of the top six, highly unlikely to go down,
or stay at QPR and take the money. But IPSWICH? Presumably a player can say no!

There are lots of reasons why players prefer one club over the other.
Leigertwood might have been a fan of Roy Keane
He might consider the greater history of the club
He might well think of Ipswich as a much more pleasant place to live
And probably the biggest thing of them all (as it nearly always is)the question of wages.
For most players the outside chance of promotion compared to an outside chance of relegation IMHO is not an issue.

Frankly, at £1m they could have him, he really isn't worth that, especially to us and McAnuff is far far better in his respective position and more important to us. I struggle to believe anyone would pay £1m for Leigterwood these days.

From what I have seen Legs has made a huge difference to us so far and we do need to keep him. BUT if the asking price goes to £1M there is no chance of the club paying it. I suspect the most we would consider would be £500K and that is pushing it.

I still fear that mid table obscurity is going to be the final outcome if we lose him and sign no one else this window. Then we will hear the same old claptrap about cloth cutting and deficits for 2011-12 and have to sell all our best players again in the summer.

It really is somewhat depressing to see opportunity after opportunity of progression squandered for the lack of a very small amount of investment.
