So Suarez wasn't worth £25m because Liverpool could have gotten long for a quarter of that?

Royal Lady My point is there was someone lower down who cost a quarter of what we sold for Long for. Brighton took a punt. We allegedly didn't sign BWP because he was injured but he's been scoring consistently too.

£3 million is not a bloody punt! It's an awful lot of money, money that we simply can't afford to spend.

We're in the situation we're in now, financially, because we paid shit loads to so-so players in the Prem. And we're having to pay the price now.

We're in this situation, because we gambled on going up the first season after relegation, and Coppell and his cronies fcked it up.

Tim Dellor displayed the benefit of a public school education when he spelt out what some amazingly still appear to be unable to see.

'We weren't quite good enough last season. When you sell your best defender and then sell your best striker it has to weaken your team.' Simples!

Yet still Madejski appears to expect his manager to perform miracles and, worryingly, McDermott appears happy to be his fall guy. 'We have to work with what we've got'.

At present there are far too many similarities with what happened the last time we just missed out on a playoff final at Wembley.

Says who?

Oh, yes, Saint Madejski , that incredible business guru (although I don't see much evidence of a Midas touch at present) whom some incredibly still applaud on his demand.

Only at the time, I believe we were told different i.e. that the incredibly well run business that is RFC was still operating within a sensible wage structure. We certainly didn't push the boat out on transfer fees compared to most.

To say there aren't players out there who could improve our options is just daft.

In the last few seasons there have been a fair amount of good strikers available for little or no fee, players such as

Danny Graham
Darius Henderson
Jay Bothroyd
Billy Sharp
Gary Hooper
Marlon King
Kevin Phillips
Plus various loan signings

Obviously wages come into it at some point but we do have to pay players, as we obviously are those on the books already. Finding the right players to get the best out of those we already have is what McDermott and his team get paid for.

LOL @ people who don't react to the bleedin' obvious until it smashes them in the face. Sell your best players every year and replace them on the cheap, or don't replace them at all, you will get less and less competitive.

This is no knee jerk reaction. Some on here have been banging this drum for quite some time. Others were assuring us of another three points at Portsmouth to prove us wrong and no doubt thought we'd got three points in the bag against Barnsley too. Worst still their records up until meeting us were pretty dire.

You do reap what you sow and Madejski's 'financial prudence' is now turning into the harvest he deserves.

Agreed. It is getting ridiculous now.

In the past we have replaced players on the cheap.I can understand that, by making a profit on players who want and deserve to play at a higher level, but at the moment we are not really replacing them which is concerning. I will reserve judgement until the transfer window closes as we will have had time to see if this is a bad patch or the way things will go this season. Likewise, we could end up signing a few players, but I feel it is now obvious that most fans want us to open the cheque book not for the excitement of signing a new player, but because they are desperately needed to give us a chance.

Agreed but we need to be real, if the club are making a loss and need to sell to keep in business then I'm not sure why everyone is so hysterical?

How can we be making a loss when we sold Gylfi a year ago and have since had a good cup run and reached the PO final and then sold two more players for another £12 million. I dread to think what a state our finances would be in without the cup runs/PO Final and if no-one had come in for Long/Mills this season.

I find that hard to believe considering how much we have received in transfer fees since relegation. If that really is the case then I would question how "Well Run" the club actually is.

Leave him alone. Royal Rother is a better supporter of the club than you. In fact he is better than all of us.

Keep in mind that pre-Premiership we made losses every year with Madejski footing the bill. Madejski no longer puts his hand in his pocket to prop up the club so we need additional income from somewhere.

See where we are in another 7 games, total 11, about 25% of the season

If we are in the bottom 3/4/5. then feel free to moan

If we are between 5th and 10th feel free to say, "RFC look like they've got it right again."

Blathering after 4 games is absolutely nuts.

Ipswich have just lost 2-5 and 7-1. I expect them to challenge for the top six
