I don't think we should treat the guy just as a commodity we can offer to clubs on loan. He's 22 now, he needs security in where he's going to be playing next season and the years beyond as these next few years will be the most important in his development. Unfortunately I don't see him breaking into our first team next year so a permanent move might be the best one for him - he's appreciated at Sheff Weds and he knows the guys there, so a permanent move might be the kick-start he needs.

If he turns out to develop a la Simon Cox then fair play to him, I think it's just wrong time, wrong place for him right now.

i think we should look to LOAN both Antonio and Morrison for a season in the championship

Make or Break season and depending on where we are next season, may work out well for us either way

I understand the logic behind people's suggestion that we loan out Antonio again next season but as things stand if we do that he will be able to walk away on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Therefore we need to make a decision on the player and, if we believe he is likely to be good enough, offer him a new contract. Then Antonio himself would need to decide whether he believes his future is with Reading or whether he wants to move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Wouldn't take a genius to work out an arrangement which gave Antonio a season
in the Championship AND protected the club's investment

eg a guaranteed option for us to take up adding 1-2-3 more years

Meanwhile he gets loads of games, does well at Wednesday or Charlton for a season

How would you ensure he signed such a contract?

Yes, not entirely sure I see what's in it for anyone other than Reading, over a proper improved and extended contract or a full transfer.

Make him an offer he cannot refuse! Take along Luca Brasi.

IF we would like to keep him for longer...

He is currently under contract.

We don't have to sell him

We don't HAVE to loan him out.

Mikail, we see you as a future PREMIERSHIP player, but we know you want to play.

Here are you're choices for the next year.

Be on the bench in the Prem - (unless Jobi or Jimmy) are injured or sign this contract
and you can get a season of Championship football. If you have improved, you could be playing
in the Prem in January 2013.

No, nothing in it for Antonio.

So what exactly would we be offering Antonio this summer?

Explaining would obviously be too taxing for you.

No please, do educate me - it won't hurt my feelings. And after all it's so obvious it shouldn't take long.

"Alternatively, we can either sell you to a Championship club who wax lyrical about you, where you're appreciated, and where you're a vital part of the team, or you can go there at the end of the season on a free/tribunal fee."

It's not as simple as him being a Reading player who we don't particularly need. He might not even want to be. As I said, a permanent move would be the best move for his future at this stage. And McDermott/Hammond are the type of management who will always put the player's wishes before the club's.

Snowball Already explained twice.

You've "explained" nothing.

You've proposed we offer Antonio a new deal (and then he goes on loan) or he sits on our bench and goes for free after a year. Correct?
In terms of the contract offer, what sort of terms to you suggest we offer in terms of salary enhancement, duration etc.

That shouldn't be too hard for you to explain. It shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 lines.

Why would he be on the bench ahead of HRK next year, when he hasn't been this year?

According to my twitter sources he wants the move, if that's the case, we shouldn't stand in his way unless we can promise him first team football next year (which we can't)

Exactly. Plus McCleary is almost in, so that is Antonio 100% out. It's just about the fee.
