Only had time to post this reply now so the game isnt as fresh in my memory (not that it was particularly memorable). I thought overall we were the better team, but we didnt play particularly well and it wasnt a great game. There wernt many chances for either side in the first half, Wednesday got into a few good positions but didnt test Andersen. We were on top and missed one decent chance that Murray put just wide (didnt look like he connected with it properly), and of course the penalty which was, I wouldnt say a turning point, but if Murray had scored I'm sure we would have gone on to win. It wasnt the best penalty but I think he was trying to be safe by going down the middle and was a bit unlucky that it came off the keepers foot as he dived.
We didnt really improve second half, and it didnt look like either side really wanted to attack and win the game. I guess the penalty miss had demolralised us somewhat, but we actually looked a bit short of ideas and lacking in the final third, which I was little surprised and disappointed by. Too many long balls being played out of defence, especially second half when they put some pressure on. Rather than getting it under control, keeping it on the floor and starting a proper counter attack of our own, we just hoofed it clear.
We also had a lot of corners and free kicks that came to absolutely nothing. Too often they played it too deep and tried to head it back across goal (fair enough its worked before, but if its not working try something else?). Murray did clip the bar with a header after a scramble from one of these but that was about it.
Again, their goal was unlucky for us but perhaps the wall should have been tighter, you could almost see something like that was going to happen.
Andersen looked fine, didnt really have much to do. I thought both CBs did fairly well for most of it, especially Cooper who was probably the pick of the defence. Gunter wasnt brilliant and Obita wasnt at his best either.
Both Norwood and Akpan started off well but seemed to steadily decline, particularly Akpan. Taylor was pretty quiet, both should have probably been subbed sooner. Blackman was decent, he has definetly improved a lot.
Cox was also pretty subdued but I actually thought Murray had a decent game, (mainly before the penalty ofc) but he used his strength well, won headers and 50 50s, and looked a threat when we attacked. Pogrebnyak could learn a thing or two from him, (thought he was pretty poor when he came on), won nothing in the air and even on the floor his first touch let him down. Still not convinced.
I thought our fans were quite good (they usually are at these sort of away games), and we made noise through out whereas Wednesday made none until they scored. Anyway, looks like I chose the wrong game to go to seeing as weve been playing quite well, but on that showing I'd say they look a mid table side, and we dont look much better. But I'm still thinking promtion is possible this season so I'm hoping for a better performance next time.
