The fans: "why don`t the club make a statement on the present situation?" the club make a statement, the fans: "is that all, why didn`t they say more?"

paultheroyal Strongly rumoured Baldock and Aluko alone were on wages combined of £65k a week and upwards. Fringe players mentioned you could probably half their amounts.

When you add what we paid for these two in transfer fees too they go down as the worst signings in our history imo.

It’s the usual suspects saying that though. Seen a lot of other people say they’re glad the club made a statement.

Agreed but it is why the club are damned if they do and damned if they don't as it will never be the "right" statement.

I thought the statement was positive and welcome. The club seem confident we will be able to strengthen.

Yep. Some people just want to be negative no matter what, we all know who they are.

Yep which is why we all need to reserve judgement until 1st September. If we haven't strengthened then by all means, let's get angry.

We could easily reach September with no signings and 3 or 4 points or 4 signings and 8-10 points.

Yep it didn’t say a lot but at least they appreciate the need to communicate to the fans, even if they haven’t got anything additional to add at the moment

Did hint that they might be getting a few silly bids in for current players

Who will we get angry with? The club who would have been literally banned from making signings, or the EFL who are following the stated rules and are frankly lenient in not giving us points deductions.

It is surprising that we do not appear to be getting hit with a points deduction. Small mercies.

Was more a point for those already getting angry at the situation that they should probably cool their jets for a few weeks.

The points deduction seems far from automatic. Birmingham (for a second time), QPR, Derby and prob a few others I can’t think of have all avoided one when it looked warranted

Trouble is there don’t seem to actually be any ‘stated rules’. Every club seems to be treated differently and the process seems to be one of negotiation. We don’t appear to have been charged with any offences (Derby, Birmingham and Sheffield Weds all got in trouble for more than over spending) and there has been less info from the EFL than from the club. There seems no public info on what restrictions we may be under or what we need to do to have those lifted. On the face of it we are actually being prevented from having a squad in line with EFL rules !

Paul is the only source I've seen claiming anything more than low 20s for Baldock and pretty much everywhere else suggests Aluko was less.

He's got a decent track record, especially on the kit, but that makes no sense at all.

You'll have to expand on how we're being prevented in having a squad up to rules. It's been fairly well covered what the issues are on here.

This sort of thing is always complicated and a negotiation. And it's rarely public. It'll be a confidential issue between club and FL. There will be set rules and then there will be complicated financial statements and commitments, with legal wranglings for exceptions and workarounds.

I can definitely believe Aluko would have been on whatever he was on at Fulham, wouldn't have made much sense for him to move if it meant taking a pay cut of any significance. Would guess around the 30k mark.
Sam Baldock would probably have been around the 15k-20k, if it comes out to be more than that then whoever signed off on the deal needs locking up.

Hadn't Baldock signed a new contract with newly promoted Brighton when we signed him? Aluko wanted a longer contract more than anything - they were only offering a 1 year extension if I remember rightly. Either way I suspect both were 20-25k

mind you - this thing suggests 13k for Aluko and 18k for Baldock: https://salarysport.com/football/player/sone-aluko/

Our owners have invested massively in the Club and have learned from their mistakes (buying expensive average players with little or no ambition, for inflated prices and eye watering contracts and believing Gourlay and Clement’s nonsense being two examples).

There have been huge steps undertaken to put things right, including getting rid of most of the greedy and the useless; employing an ambitious, talented young coach and generally managing the Club’s finances with the longer term in mind.

Changes to FFP will be coming soon; unless the EFL seriously think that they can prevent most of the championship clubs from buying players and striving for success.

Such steps will reduce revenues for all and reduce the quality of the product, reduce demand; go backwards.

The numbers may be bigger but the principles of owning a football club haven’t changed in decades.

Every Club is a money pit; with everyone striving for those golden moments that make it all worthwhile.

If the owners are lucky; those golden moments bring huge rewards; most minor successes bring the ability to stretch once again and go forward again and keep the dreams alive.

Many clubs are run without any realistic desire for success.

I am glad to say that since the day SJM took the reigns, with one or two glitches along the way; our club has at least attempted and continues to attempt to reach for the stars.

Big but measured risks; and I think it’s worth taking them. Every time.

From Despair To Where? I've seen absolutely no even semi reliable sources suggest they were on anywhere near that much. £15,000-22,000 is the sort of figure I've seen quoted for both.

A lot of these figures only quote guaranteed payments though. We have no idea what incentivised payments the players get.

Delusional to think that. He was commanding Premier League wages and was on an absolute fortune per week at Fulham. He was earning in excess of £35k per week at Reading, trust me.

Those rumours are incorrect, that would be the same pay scale for both of them close to Liam Moore who is comfortably our highest `earner`.
I think it`s closer to £40k, still a substantial amount for that pair of wasters.

Sadly, you are wrong.
