LUX
Norfolk Royal Most of those things in the OP true but I like supporting a team that literally nobody anywhere else gives a sh*t about. I play on it in fact.

Think I mentioned this before but my proudest moment in that respect came some ten years ago after a particularly taxing night out in Norwich and ended up back at a hotel in the early hours. Got talking to these two blokes still in the bar and inevitably football came up.

They were both Man Utd fans although one of them wasn't from Manc. So I listened to them drivelling on about Fergie etc and how great they were for some time.

Finally there was a lull in the convo and one of them deigned to ask me who I supported. 'Reading,' I said, probably more firmly than was necessary.

Not kidding, but their faces just dropped and then immediately replaced by a look of utter bemusement. They literally could not think of anything to say on the matter and turned to another subject to talk about.

I didn't even want to say anything more about 'Reading' to them as they wouldn't have been in the slightest bit interested. It was just that one word 'Reading,' a guaranteed conversation killer in any discussion about football. It felt like..,.victory.

Lolz, very good post.

I’ve had conversations like that. Always with fans of “big” clubs*

However some of the most surprising conversations have been with fans of ordinary shit clubs, who will reel off players, matches and knowledge about Reading.

Interestingly (ish) Crystal Palace fans can be like this.

*well they think they are

Or, "Reading?
Isn't that the club owned by that Mad, Madge, Madsk, Majicski or whatever his name is?"

I think it’s easy to lose interest as a home supporter - a stadium that lacks history and atmosphere poor when attendance is low, consecutive seasons being just good enough and not enough Royals heroes on the pitch at the moment.

So for season ticket holders the one or two games you miss a season becomes 10 or 11, etc. Actually a bit self inflicted by the club that their excellent ticket pricing over the years mean fans attend less religiously.

BUT I attended my first away game in ages on Wednesday and it reminded me some of the reasons I really do care. The camaraderie of the away crowd, the feeling of being outnumbered, getting closer to players, the smell and feel of a different ground, etc.

I absolutely loved the Bristol trip on Wednesday night and it reminded me why I care so much!

Re the op

I don’t care about the team or the players or the fan
