bcubed On this analysis we can still finish second even if we carry on producing our current form, as long as every team maintains their current form :!:
The run in 2009

That table shows Wolves finishing 7th.

Which would be nice.

snowball one of the reasons people love football is because there are so many varied opinions which can be debated. everyone has different opinions on players, performances etc etc. but if someone just come on a 'DISCUSSION' board and put a load of stats up are you suggesting people shouldnt have opinions? because thats just plain stupid. i get the impression your trying to turn hobnob into a stat website and the discussion board might as well get scrapped and renamed the 'stat section'. like your previous thread on shane long. those stats are completley useless. the boy hasnt performed and currently doesnt even deserve to be on the bench yet you claim your stats mean he should start. in relation to this thread all those stats you put on there about previous results will probably mean nothing come the end of the season. where second. potentially one point of top if we win our game in hand. surely we should reflect on performances and how to get that top spot than looking at pointless stats!

Hob Nob Anyone - Discussion Board!

Snowball
Southbank Old Boy It might be relevant but **cked if I'm bothering to read any more of his spamming like stats that dont add anything to a serious discussion on how the team are actually playing

But this site DOESN'T "discuss" anything.

Here is a typical "discussion".

Harper is sh!te.
Nah Harper is vital to the club.
No he's s!te, shoulda gon ta Boro
He's important yer blins g!t
he's a blind crab d!chead.

Go to line 1 and repeat.

Come on then, the lot of you. How many times since you have been in this forum has the DISCUSSION
persuaded you to change your opinion of a player or the team?

I'm afraid you have to accept that the level of debate is often poor but that is the nature of this and most football sites.
Perhaps you ought to set up your own site and only allow people on there that wish to discuss stats.
For most of us football is a game of passion and feeling and not about how many throw-ins Kebe has won or conceded although at best some of the stats can be mildly interesting.
BTW S Hunt is an overpaid..................................................statistically he doesn't produce sufficient returns over and above any other winger that might ever play for us per £ of net relevant earnings and in a direct ratio to all other Irish players including the rugby boys especially if he is paid in euros rather than pegs-discuss.

I am glad Snowball's stats have been well, snowballing lately. We needed a Mr. Spock/Mr. Data type on the RTG squad. All we need is a few fluky goals and the confidence will be back.

Snowball The reason I post stats is because of the idiotic posts on this list.

It is always MERE OPINION and posted as near-absolute certainty

If you read the threads on the Preston game as one example, you will see Shane praised and rubbished, Harps praised and rubbished, Lita praised and rubbished, Doyle praised and rubbished, what exactly is the POINT of all that crap?

It's just NOISE, chattering masses.

People come on here with pre-set opinions and 99% of them rigidly refuse to change them.

It's not DEBATE, it's a childish shouting match.

If half the lists says Lita Good, and the other half says Lita bad, too bloody right I will point out that in the last two seasons he has played 15 games and 7 more as sub, and scored 2 goals. BECAUSE THAT IS A FACT, NOT AN OPINION

Southbank Old Boy Football is not a game of absolutes, facts and stats though, it is a game of different views and opinions

That's dumb

It's a total, absolute fact that the side with the most points (best record may include GD) wins the league

I think you completely missed the point of his post there.

Yes the final table is a stats mans dream but the game itself - the thing that is played by 22 people is extremely subjective to the point where two people sat next to each other, with no prejudice to any player/team, can come up with totally different opinions on what they have watched.

Snowball mate, don't be discouraged, I like your stats, they're a comfort blanket.
They say, it's ok, don't panic, we're gonna get a glory day in April/May.

But of course, if you get it wrong and we don't go up, then it's all your fault for giving us a false sense of security!

Snowball seems incapable of understanding that.

I wish he'd stop with the endless stats. He's got some quite interesting opinions and things to say, but the endless drivel he posts hides it and makes me not bother actually reading what he writes.

I know we've picked up a few more draws than we'd like lately, but the reality is we've only lost 1 league match since Southampton at home, and that was away at the bang in form Swansea. Our attacking players are not firing at the moment, but we've kept 3 clean sheets in a row against 3 teams who can have realistic hopes of either automatic promotion or the play-offs. People on here like to pretend otherwise, but out attacking players such as Doyle, the Hunts and Lita have real quality in this league and this barren run will not last. I'm confident we'll get through what you could call a stutter and catch Wolves at the top.

How to get to that total is where the opinion and gut instinct becomes far far far more important than some highly misleading stats

Last week you were telling us that 87 points was a minimum for finishing 2nd. At least finally you have come around and understand the basic principles of the league table.

3rd + 1 point, it's all we need.

Do you often plan on falling asleep reading threads on hobnob?

I find it has the opposite effect!

Snowball any chance you could do a thread about the amount of loops each player uses when lacing up their boots?

seriously though. im fed up with stats. this is a discussion board. stats to a certain extent are nice to look at but I tend to base my opinions on what I see week in week out! I like people coming back from games having various opinions on players, performances, tactics.

We have every different angle here. Back-from-the-game subjectivity is one and statistical analysis is another. Why exclude any point of view, including the number crunching? It's certainly a different way of looking at things. What I get fed up with is people who insist their contribution is the only worthwhile one. By all means, believe the evidence of your own eyes, but what's wrong with tempering that with some different kinds of evidence?
