22 goals in 36 starts for Celtic. Good player.

can't imagine hooper would be too interested in the move though. we also wouldn't be able to afford his wages.

isn't this the former grays athletic, southend united, leyton orien and, scunny striker hooper? of course he'd be interested in coming here. as for wages, a club that can't raise £3-4m for shane long will not be able to pay wages much out of our reach. hooper isn't in their highest wage bracket so we should be able to make a sensible offer to the boy.

why would they get rid of hooper? He was class for them last season!

Still Hooper + 1.5m and a 15% sell on clause will do

Really?? I know it is a shockingly bad league but Celtic are better than us. Lots of their players would improve our squad.

Emilio Izaguirre linked with Arsenal and Man Utd
Scott Brown would improve our squad
Kris Commons would improve our squad
Joe Ledley would improve our squad
Beram Kayal would improve our squad
Daniel Majstorović would improve our squad
Ki Sung-Yueng would improve our squad

And Gary Cooper would improve our squad.

Hooper being touted for England and had a brilliant season.

Suspect they'd be looking for Long as his partner
no way as a replacement

Yes. Also a current Celtic first teamer with prospects of European football. I'd be surprised if Celtic didn't pay more than us.

SUNDERLAND are reportedly preparing a £7m bid for Ireland striker Shane Long.

The Black Cats face stiff competition from Wolves, Everton and Newcastle, but their ability to increase his wages to £40,000 a week could trump their rivals.

Sunderland want to make the Tipperary native their first-choice striker after Darren Bent's January exit.

Kevin Doyle, meanwhile, is being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates with long-term fan Arsene Wenger prepared to offer Wolves £9.5m for the Wexford man.

Wolves are thought to want £13m and have offered Doyle an improved deal to try and keep their key forward at Molineux.

Another Ireland striker who could be on the move is Noel Hunt, with West Ham ready to offer £1.75m to Reading for the Waterford native.

The former Shamrock Rovers man scored 10 league goals for Reading last season.

Shay Given is attracting interest from Aston Villa, West Brom and Celtic, while Ipswich look set to improve their offer to Preston for Sean St Ledger

If this were doubly true, wouldn't the logical step be Long replacing Doyle at Wolves?

LOl @ Arsene being a "long term fan" of Doyle and prepared to pay £9.5 million - absolutely rubbish I reckon.

I'm more interested in the fact that Kebe doesn't seem to have been linked with anyone - will we see all our players still here come the start of the new season?!!

Don't you think that's probably why the artical says that Wolves are interested in him but might be likely to miss out due to Sunderland being able to offer him more money?

Why LOL? He's talked him up in the past and there have been a few rumours he may be interested for a while now (prices up to about £12m I believe)

In a side set up to attack teams and create chances he'll score a decent number of goals. He's not had that for a few years now though.

He's no Robbie Fowler or Jermaine Defoe style pure goalscorer though. I think that's probably what Wenger likes about him.

Latest rumour from the wacky world of Shane Long... (Setanta OS)

Sunderland are believed to be lining up a £7m for Reading striker Shane Long, who could become Steve Bruce's fifth summer signing.

After the Royals missed out on promotion to the Premier League, the Republic of Ireland international has been heavily linked with a summer move away from the Madejski Stadium.

Wolves, Everton and Newcastle are all said to be tracking the 24-year-old, but Sunderland are leading the race for his signature with the Black Cats able to offer bigger wages.

Bruce has been keen to find a long-term replacement for Darren Bent, following his January move to Aston Villa, and the Sunderland boss feels Long could be the man to partner Asamoah Gyan.

Sunderland are on the brink of sealing their third and fourth captures of the summer, with Craig Gardner and Ji Dong-Won expected to sign up later this week
