blythspartan I would love Ashley to become our new owner. He would run the club sensibly like Sir John did.

He didn’t have enough ambition for the Newcastle fans, but he really stabilised them as a club. He is the best we can hope for right now and it’ll will be fantastic if he buys us.

So what you're saying is, like Wilder for manager, he'd be perfect. So it's about to go very quiet for 5 weeks and then we'll end up with the charlatan Storey?

Knowing our luck, then probably yes, but hopefully our luck will change.

Snowflake Royal What are we thinking? Ashley been in the background for a while, and coming in for crisis talks to try to make sure things don't go too far down shitcreek before he takes over?

Or previous bids from othersfailed and now Ashley shoeing up to register interest?

The former I think. Seems very Ashley

Thing with Ashley is he also has a monumental ego. The chance to play the hero will appeal to him

Who buys a football club without a monumental ego? They're a terrible investment on financial terms. SJM named the stadium after himself!

I would literally walk away from the club if he became owner.
If he has the money....which he doesn't, he would have bought the club ages ago seeing as he is keen. I think if he does raise the cash it's going to be topped up with loans that will eventually go against the club....just like loads of his other businesses that vanished and we're written off. He will always protect his 28mill personal wealth. There's a reason he couldn't get Coventry and Sunderland over the line....Coventry was 50mill and another 12mill on top......he couldn't raise it.
Ashley is perfect and we would be run properly and hopefully never end up in this position again for an age.

Mike Bishop at the ground, seen chatting to Bowen. I believe he's Ashley's main PR man....

Winston Biscuit
Clyde1998 I think the issue with Newcastle was they were largely a top six club for most of the decade prior to him purchasing the club. They ended up becoming a lower mid-table club under Ashley due to the financial model he employed.

If i have my calculations right, In the decade before he bought them they finished in the bottom half of the Premier League in 6 of those 10 seasons

I might have got the exact takeover date wrong, so maybe it's more of the previous fifteen before he bought the club (I'm thinking between 1993-94 and 1996-97; and between 2001-02 and 2005-06). The 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons had a bottom half finish, but they finished on very high points tallies for the bottom half (50+).

Perhaps it's better to say they were a team that would typically get 50 points minimum in a (38 game) Premier League season - something they only managed once under Ashley's ownership.

To quote from one of my fave film characters: "Enough of the negative waves, Moriarty !"
Bowen's been called in on a Sunday
Ashley's helicopter is at the stadium car park.
Things are afoot.
Maybe that corner is about to be turned, and our beloved club can return to being properly run for a very long time.
Build on the good work of the Academy, appoint experienced first team management.
We're not a bad investment. We have diamonds here. A polished up Nelson alone in today's inflated market could easily nett
us £30-40M.
Here's hoping

Wonder if Selles is there. Wasn't he meeting prospective owners. If this goes through hopefully he is first out.

I couldn’t ever walk away from the club, but I completely understand your feelings about Storey. He’s a bullshitting attention seeker who can talk a good game, but he can’t back it up with anything tangible.

Imagine a world where Ashley is the owner and Wilder is the manager. We can but dream.

I've no complaints about SCL, but I must admit "The Ashley Arena" has got a better ring to it.
Although old farts like me will always call it The Madstad. :D

A world where the owner has money to sack him if it doesn't work out as well. :D

Squeee could we actually get some good news please!

BBCRB still running with Storey as the front runner insinuating he is almost over the line.

Shame the fans can't choose which owner they want. I'd prefer Ashley over Storey

Like they know anything. The fact they're believing the charlatan's tweets tells you not to listen to them.

Aka he gave Dellor an interview, so he's the front runner.

Obviously pure speculation, but just read an article suggesting Ashley might bring back Pards if he were to take us over.
