There's no way Tommy Smith's worth £1.8 million, I hope we go in for Priskin.

he's worth what some one's willing to pay etc
he's worth 1.8 if chopra's worth 4 etches worth it if he plays 30 games, gets 15 goals, provides an excellent foil for other players, and gets us to the premiere league

there are many ways he could be worth that.

but youre probably right

..........................why not both!?

Don't see much point as we're more short of wingers and a quality defensive midfielder, especially given we're likely to play 4-5-1.

Lol, no need to get flustered, I just don't think we need both given we've got N Hunt who's proven he's more than able, along with Mooney, Church and Long.

What would be your targets and areas you'd strengthen then?

1st job as manager for me would be to try and persuade bikey matejovski and harper to stay
then id look at a striker
two wingers, one on loan
and a CB on loan
oh, and a LB cover/competition for stretch
then id buy kaka

Just because Sheff Utd have bid £1.8million it doesn't mean he's worth that to us. He's 29 and won't be sold on at a profit. We'd get 3-4 years out of him max. He's never made it in the Premiership, so if we go up that could be the end of the chapter. At the same time if he helps us up then he'll be worth every penny spent. It all comes down to the fact that every player signed is a gamble, and clearly Hammond, and probably Rodgers too, think that paying £1.8million for Tommy Smith is too much a risk.

Priskin, on the other hand, has a better scoring record this season and really flourished under Rodgers last season. He's aged just 23 and will have a future at the club. As a striker, he'd be a far more sound investment in my view, cheaper too.

Of course there is the 4-5-1 issue. If that really is Rodgers' preferred formation then Smith will fit the bill better as he is adept on tht wing too.

In conclusion, I'm leaving decision making to the club and am glad the responsibility doesn't fall on me.

Ian Royal The fact he could leave for nothing at the end of the season can have a bearing on these things. As can Watford's financial situation.

It is certainly worth taking into consideration.

Maybe it can have a bearing on these things but the fact that a club is reported to have bid £1.8M for Smith's services would suggest that neither the fact that he could leave at the end of this season nor Watford's financial situation is having much of an effect on this occasion. That being the case, it seems pretty futile taking it into consideration!! Hence the fact that we seem unlikely to secure a player that Rodgers appeared very keen to sign.

Its our old friends at Sheff United that have had a bid of £1.8 million accepted. Suppose its part of their West Ham £10 million compensation.

Crickey, a club spending some of the money it has received - madness, haven't they got some coffers that need swelling.

IN: Reading Football Club will this week complete the double signing of Chelsea's Jack Cork on a season long loan, and also Tamas Priskin will join Brendan Rodgers at Reading on a 4 year deal for £1,000,000 rising to a possible £1,400,000 if Royals earn promotion within that contract length.

Mark Randall on loan from Arsenal.

Out: Reading have also agreed a £2m fee to sell defender Andre Bikey, who will join French club Marseille in the next 14 days.

Okay, it's only from football-rumours.co.uk but worth the occasional look...

Is it really worth a check? Surely you could just make up your own rumours and that would equally as accurate!
