They're a middling top tier side who occasionally fall out and occasionally flirt with Europe. Nothing more.

Man City and Liverpool have expanded their stadia since, whilst West Ham and Tottenham are in bigger grounds that they had. Now 50,000 is nothing special in the Premier League.

Entitlement to success, no. However, it would be likely to provide funds to the club - 50,000 fans would provide 25% more ticket revenue than a team getting 40,000 (with the same ticket price). Higher attendances often leads to success via the financial advantage it gives the club compared to others.
