kwik-silva Why are we still talking about relegation?? FWIW, I agree with RR and the 1 single point should've been the Fulham game at home but thats long gone...

because there's a fantastically high proportion of numpties on here? Ones that haven't quite worked out that we went down and why that happened ...

But we didn't, because the squad was of poor quality and wasn't good enough. With investment in it, we would have improved our chances of getting that 1 extra point.

But by doing nothing, we did nothing to those chances. And get a lower income this year.

Murty on Sky was just talking about the huge financial rewards for getting into the Premiership. Does he not listen to his chairman? Apparently there's sod all money in it.

Surely his chairman was moaning about the huge financial rewards for getting into the Premiership for players. Murty is a player. QED.

Nope, Murty was talking about the huge financial rewards for the club.

The chairman tells us that after two seasons in the prem with little spent on players, there's no money to buy.

I repeat, EVERYONE accepts that additional investment would have improved the chances of staying up. Find a post, just one post, where someone says "if wouldn't have made any difference if we had invested in strengthening the team last season - we would still have gone down" or words to that effect.

I just don't understand what drives you. Why the hell do you insist on trying to win a game of one-upmanship that doesn't actually exist in the 1st place, by repeating this nonsense ad nauseum?

Hampshire royal said exactly that. You lose.

Hmm, for some reason not a thread I had read or contributed to...

He comes pretty close to suggesting that investment wouldn't have made a difference I'll admit, but not quite "exactly that" from what I can see.
Hampshire Royal The best way to remedy that would be to get rid of all the big time charlies and replace them either with reserves or new signings (unfortunately, when somebody has that opinion of himself, it's very difficult to change it). The end result would probably have been the same and we would have been relegated.

The use of the word "probably" just about saves me. Dodgy ground maybe, but I'll not acknowledge defeat just yet.

Hmm, and he made no effort to redress matters when I said he was saying that relegation was inevitable, despite numerous opportunities to do so?

Lack of response still doesn't signify "exactly that".

Come on, give me a break. I'm only hanging on by my fingertips here...

The 17 Bus I would think Kitson and Shorey would be on around 20/25k a week tops.

I would also think that Shorey was on lower wages at RFC than a lot of the players as he did not sign new longer contract

Didn't he sign one about the time we went up? That would've surely recognised his part in the promotion and put him amongst our top few earners.

What worries me is that we've been told by certain quarters that going down, and not spending a relative lot in doing so, would've left us in a very healthy position to take the division by storm and use our new found financial power to bounce back and start life as a yo-yo club.

Whats happened to all those people who said this last season when they said we shouldn't spend to survive?

Currently in hiding, carrying out extensive repairs to their RTGs and trying to come up with another positive spin to explain away that very point!

That would have been around the time we offered Sidwell £18k a week possibly, and as it was said that he would have been the highest earner i stand that Shorey was earning less than a good few of the others, especially Hunt, and probably Doyle too, but they got longer contracts, part of the reason for a pay rise.

That makes sense, probably somewhere around the 15k mark then, if he was lucky. I'm sure Harper got a renewal when we clinched promotion that made him the top earner at the time.

The larger contracts for the Doyle etc came a bit later once they'd shown they'd managed to adapt in that first season.

"The fans Invest in so what's JM's Excuse???

by backintheday » 23 Aug 2008 22:45

I was wondering on the thoughts of Reading fans who have invested in the team for this coming season, in the way of purchasing their season ticket, and the lack of investment from JM.
Also, do you feel as insulted as I do when JM comes out with "The money's all gone" Where has it f#&@/*g gone? I don't begrudge you the money or am jealous of your wealth, but I think we deserve a little more than that. Remember JM, without the fans there would be no money!!!!
