What precisely are you trying to achieve by arguing over such meaningless statistics?

Giving the ball away when trying to thread a pass to the feet of a striker making a run in the opposition box = 1
Giving the ball away to an opposition striker with a woefully under-hit clearance in your own box = 1

Very different but they both have the same "giving the ball away" score.

Guthrie was pretty good, but not outstanding, and didn't do anything particularly match-winning or crucial. He made some errors but none that were terrible or particularly costly. And that's more or less all I'd expect.

Yeh, but that's because we desperately need a specialist at the role he was playing in the first team. He's just just okay at it, and against a team like Man City will be fairly anonymous.

I'm not arguing over the statistics. I'm just pointing out that I think brendy is being overly harsh on the player who I think was our best outfield player and will hopefully be a key man for us under Adkins.

Statistics never show enough of the game for my liking but to address brendy's main complaint (that Guthrie gave the ball away far too much and was sloppy etc) they do help to put some context and perceptive as to why he might've thought that (ie he was on the ball more than anyone else and tried to be more creative too - see his 5 key passes compared to 1 each for 5 of his teammates).

Hoop Blah There's a whole thread on how accurate the media coverage of RFC is brendy.

I've never taken their views or ratings with anything other than a truck load of salt, so I'm not going to start putting too much weight on their ratings.

I think their view is as relevant as yours and mine tbf. Still yet to find any that made him readings best player

Ian Royal No offence. But some spacko journo giving a score out of ten is pretty meaningless compared to a website that purports to have counted the number of passes made and their success rate. I saw guthrie give the ball away maybe 5 times. Big fooking deal. The positives far out weigh those smsll negatives.

None taken you big spaz. I also think the positives outweigh the negatives. I'm just not ignoring them totally

SPARTA
melonhead sun dream team puts him on 6, along with mcanuff.
with karacan and mcleary both on 7

I thought McAnuff was pretty anonymous for about 88 minutes of the game.

He was substituted after 70mins

melonhead he did ok, played some nice stuff, and frustratingly did alot of stupid stuff.

Made the most passes in the team with a 92% completion stat; spill the beans on the bold.

Thank you in advance for not depressingly insinuating I'm f/cking him because I query an unsupported criticism of the player.

Chuckle

I honestly can't remember all these instances of supposed sloppy Guthrie passing, I just remember plenty of raking cross-field passes to find overlapping full backs, and excellent link-up play with Jemba.

im not insinuating anything, im damn well shouting it from the rooftops. youve shagged him. and you liked it.

again, i reiterate that i saw him do various silly things, including a no look pass to the opposition when he could have passed it while looking to a player on our team,& twice passing it into the stands while under no pressure.

obviously the list of good things is much longer.ive already detailed much of what he did right in the game
but i dont see why i should ignore the bad, just cos there was some good

agreed that the partnership with jem and him looks like a promotion winning one imo
add in carrico if he ever gets fit, and i think its a championship winning one that has absolutely everything except a proven regular goal threat

'Greed Brenders, but with two of those three sitting deep releasing the likes of McCleary, Kanu, McAnuff, and Kebe - all of whom are proven attacking threats at that level - we don't really need them to be a goal threat.

I'm asking you to explain it, not ignore it you tissue of shemale spooge.

Three misplaced passes doesn't seem to fit your initial quantity of "a lot", but then I am f/cking him ROFLMAO.

Funny how Guthrie gets stick for a few misplaced passes, yet nothing detracts from the huge McCarthy lovefest even though his kicking was woeful at times including kicking it straight to one of their players in first half ....

Central midfielders judged on: passing
Goalkeepers judged on: saving shots

Hope I cleared that up for you.

Other than that I'm not sure why Guthrie is the only player to get 1000 comments every game and so much scrutiny. He's just another player, leave him to it.

brendy, would you be willing to retract "lot" in "a lot of stupid stuff" and replace it with "some"?

We're all good if you do that as far as I'm concerned.... g'arn, meet me part way.

So it's OK for goalkeepers to throw the ball to the opposing team then and you'd not criticise him for kicking the ball into touch from goal kicks?

Based on what? That we get beaten almost every game?

In the general spirit of fairness I will attempt some movement. How a bout 'I noticed Guthrie doing more of it than others, but that may be as much to do with the way I watched the game as much as the way Guthrie played the game. Judgement on differences between a lot and some depends on many things,so it is emminently possible that one man's a lot is another man's some or few.' How's that?
