With West Brom also getting Gera back I think Cox may well be available at some point.

URZZ http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/magpies-offer-best-in-long-bid-2814915.html

Hmmm... interesting, very interesting. Can imagine us actually accepting this.

Best would be a very good signing for us IMHO, if he gets fit. Has had some bad injuries over the last 3 seasons but his record isn't to be sniffed at, 6 goals in 12 games last year? 3 of those coming from a hat-trick, albeit against a struggling West Ham.

I wouldn't begin to suggest he is as good as Long, I think Shane is a far better player in all departments, however I think Best could become a bit of a favourite if he moved here, could see him banging the goals in.

Just as I posted this, I saw the Leon Best thread in Rumours, but ah well.

So Newcastle value Best at £4m?.......£8m + Best would be better IMHO

Yes please. Free next summer? Might not be out of our price range.

I can just see Cox plus an undisclosed fee coming on.
It does look as though Cox has matured in his time away.

I thought that Cox featured more once Hodgson arrived (might be wrong). Plus he got his ROI call up.

I'd like to see him back here - just get the impression that he'd not want to come back / drop a division. Hope i'm wrong (if Long moves to WBA).

I think that's about right. He certainly made some noises about being grateful for Hodgson giving him a new chance towards the end of the year.

If they're looking at bringing in additional forwards, and he was one that wasn't top of their pecking order, you have to think he might have to move on.

Dropping down a division might not be too appealing to him, but I guess it depends what his priorities are. I can see someone like Swansea showing an interest as well.

Comment from a Baggies fan re possible Long transfer...just as well for Chairmans sake he's not a Reading fan, or else he'd be knocking on the JM door at every opportunity !

I've said it before & I'll say it again, if Albion are serious at being an established premier league club, we have to pay the going rate for top quality players. You can't run a premiership club on a championship budget! I don't agree with the finances being paid BUT! that's the way it is.£8 million is not overpriced in today's market, or maybe we should pay £3-4 million on players and find ourselves fighting relegation again! The choice is yours JP & the board

I'd take £6m and Cox. They can afford that and it doesn't hurt us quite so much. Ideally the tight man would stick £2m into the team and bag another £4m towards next summers "black hole".

I just see Cox as being "like Church"

We need someone more prolific - a poacher, who will get us 20 goals a season

I think Cox could get 20 goals in the Championship if he played a full season. I'd much prefer him to Church - he's a clever footballer, whereas we're still waiting to see what kind of player Church will be.

Lasted rumour. Long to sign for Swansea for £6 mill and Craig Beattie coming the other way. Sounds very realistic.

Sounds realistic, but no thank you!

If Long went to Swansea, I would b a very angry man.

And what has Beatie ever done?

On the train back from Wembley the Swansea fans were telling me Rodgers had already said he wanted Long, but they also said Borini was better and was staying, and he went to Italy!

I wouldn't be happy with Beattie coming this way. Fck off Rodgers!
