Maguire
melonhead agreed that the partnership with jem and him looks like a promotion winning one imo

Based on what? That we get beaten almost every game?

Let's not run before we can walk.

Based on watching us play over many years in the championship and by comparison to other midfields we have had. I'm not saying it will be, I'm saying I think it could be. I've been wrong before :D

If anyone other than Jobi is going to be captain I would bet on Karacan.

Presumably based on the fact that both players have been key parts of Championship winning midfields in the past

Don't you lot all think we "fluked" the Championship though? You think Karacan can "fluke" it twice?!

I don't think I ever said 'fluked' tbf, I think we got a fair bit of luck along the way, but most title winning sides will need that.

Plus you are very much against the idea of us 'fluking' the title last year..so your line of debate works both ways :P

I don't think we fluked it, nope. In fact it's ridiculous to say we did.

Just picking up on melonhead's bubbling optimism in which he's decided that getting thumped most weeks means our central midfield is going to win us the league :D

Still, if Guthrie can't pull the strings in the Championship then he might as well hang up his boots.

and i didnt say it was championship winning, i said promotion winning. i said youd have to add in a fit carrico to win the league
(A player ive seen play ok twice, for 30-45 minutes each. :D )

I think it makes sense. From what I have seen of Guthire, Jem and Carrico in the few games at the end of the season as we make the transition to the new style, I too think there is enough quality and promise there to make us serious contenders.

Not forgetting that, before Brian takes all the blame, the players we have right now weren’t good enough to stay up and didn’t play the best quality football to get promoted – Adkins additions are going to be massively important.

melonhead a fit carrico

Will that ever happen? Get the impression Adkins is prepared to give him a chance but he's nowhere near the physical level you need to be at to compete.

Would like to see us sign a central midfielder tbh although there are more important areas to strenghten.

Ian Royal brendy, would you be willing to retract "lot" in "a lot of stupid stuff" and replace it with "some"?

We're all good if you do that as far as I'm concerned.... g'arn, meet me part way.

In the general spirit of fairness I will attempt some movement. How a bout 'I noticed Guthrie doing more of it than others, but that may be as much to do with the way I watched the game as much as the way Guthrie played the game. Judgement on differences between a lot and some depends on many things,so it is emminently possible that one man's a lot is another man's some or few.' How's that?

You drive a hard bargain. But go on then.

Ooh just watched highlights and it looked like Guthrie lost his man for the first goal. Bench him.

Like Matt Mills, but in a different position, this fellah will never win the hearts and minds of the Reading public

Royalwaster Funny how Guthrie gets stick for a few misplaced passes, yet nothing detracts from the huge McCarthy lovefest even though his kicking was woeful at times including kicking it straight to one of their players in first half ....

Central midfielders judged on: passing
Goalkeepers judged on: saving shots

Hope I cleared that up for you.

Other than that I'm not sure why Guthrie is the only player to get 1000 comments every game and so much scrutiny. He's just another player, leave him to it.

Lucky for McCarthy that he's not judged on kicking the ball straight to the opposition once again then ...

That's good because McCarthy let in four yesterday.

Thanks to the likes of Valdes being comfortable with the ball at your feet is a big requirement for a top level keeper. If he is to become as good as you lot think he's going to be and if Reading are going to play this style of passing it around at the back then being comfortable with the ball at his feet is going to be just as important to McCarthy as shot stopping.

In answer to the second part he gets lots of comments because he brought the spotlight on himself.
