specialjon Lasted rumour. Long to sign for Swansea for £6 mill and Craig Beattie coming the other way. Sounds very realistic.

Would Shane want to play under Rodgers though? :|

Think about it. Shane's movement, which is top class, throw in his pace, strength and fitness, coupled with Swansea's footballing philosophy? It would work beautifully.

Though not in the Premiership where they will be too busy defending and repeatedly being raped next season. Shane needs better than Swansea.

I think he is suggestion more to the fact that Rodgers didn't play him, when he was manager of Reading

I'm not one to go on about the "black hole" but McDs piece on the OS makes it sound as tho we will have to sell Long to balance the books. I assumed that's what the Mills sale had done?!

That's a bit of a leap from that one sentence!

He just says as a club we have to balance the books, well dur. I don't think that's particularly linked to the comments about Shane going if a big offer from a Prem club comes in.

As this topic started off with West Ham I see that Stoke's deal to buy Carlton Cole for £4.2 million is off.
Not that I rate Cole but he is an England international with a few years' experience of Premier League football.
Danny Graham,a leading goalscorer at Championship level has gone from Watford for a fee reported to be somewhere in excess of £3 million.
What makes RFC or any of the fans think that Long is worth £10 million using the above two as a guideline?

Agree BR2 ....Chairman is showing his ignorance of transfer values...yes he can put any price he likes on the head of a footballer...but if he wants to sell , and we KNOW he does, then be realistic...Long is a very good championship striker but id question him in prem league, and its only a stupid bid of £10m that would come from a prem league ...but it wont happen

...think old Sven would even baulk at such a figure :D

He's not a better player than Doyle....Doyle went for £6m and i think given we paid pence for Long, £6m for Long would be a result ...lets not be greedy chairman !!!

jm doesnt get involved in the transfer policy of the club, precisely because he knows he is ignorant of that side of his business

Hence Nicky Hammonds success as being the mediator between Chairman and Manager, and it's work a treat in all fairness.

I think £10m would be a hell of a lot of money to pay for Long, given all the circumstannces.

I can't really believe we've ended up with clubs considering him at £7m (see Lennons comments that they'd been priced out) so I do wonder how much of it is just paper talk to appease fans.

Cole being available for c. £4m could be a reflection of his wage demands. A club getting Cole is going to have to pay him a lot more in wages than a club taking Long from us. West Ham probably want to cash in on Cole to get him off their wage bill, at least more than we want to do the same with Long anyway. That may well be distorting the asking price.

I cannot see us selling Shane for less than 6M.

We would be better to hang on to him as even with 6 months left on his contact - we will probably get more in January provided he continues to do well.

I might be clutching at straws but I am still hoping he might commit for one more season.

Misinformed paper gossip. Hunt's contract runs until the end of 2012-13 season.

Looks like really poor editorial effort. I read this as Long's contract being up at the end of this season. The comment regarding Hunt only starts the second sentence in on the final paragraph.

...so international goalscoring is the barometer is it??? ROI have probably 50 players to choose from to make their national team and England have 10 times that ??? ...and look at the opposition as well .....so Matt de K...I might be a joey but better than being a total C*ck! :D
