DOYLERSAROYALER ...so international goalscoring is the barometer is it??? ROI have probably 50 players to choose from to make their national team and England have 10 times that ??? ...and look at the opposition as well .....so Matt de K...I might be a joey but better than being a total C*ck! :D

**shakes head

I think you are embarrassing yourself a little!!

The question was asked, by BR2, Why is Long worth more than Graham & Cole?? I answered that maybe it's because he's scored goals at a higher level & he was younger.

Also, looking at the opposition for his international goals, the last 3 were against Russia, Norway & Uruguay? Hardly no hoper teams!!!! Anyway - your argument about who they are against is irrelevant as Long has scored and Cole & Graham HAVEN'T. Meaning they HAVEN'T scored at the highest level

Now you are calling me a cock?? For what?? Being right???

Hoop Blah Either way, and for whatever reasons, Hunt just doesn't play enough games or minutes to be the man to build your attack around.

No, not "either way", that's (once again, going on gut without looking at the facts.

The FACT is that he's only once started more than 30 games in a season, for whatever reasons.

There are reasons for each injury and each spell unavailable but they still mean he's missed a lot of games throughout his career and so represents a gamble if you're going to build your attack around him. Some players are just a bit fragile.

Interesting to note that Hunt tweaked his knee ligament (or cartilage) on tour and gave the physio's a bit of a worry. According to the way they reported it on the radio it wasn't even whilst they were playing football but whilst mucking about in the water park over the road.

Long is back in the papers, this time Newcastle and Everton being touted

Reading boss Brian McDermott insists striker Shane Long is ready for the Premier League - which will alert Newcastle and Everton.

Wish someone would just hurry up and put a starting bid in for him! Must be rather unsettling for Longy, plus we need as much time to find a suitable replacement :?

Probably as good a place as any to drop this is - http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 80,00.html

Watford sign Iwelumo on a 2 year deal.

Absolute bargain at this level. It's quite frightening that we seem so content with Long (likely to go and god knows who comes in), Hunt (injury prone), Manset and Williams.

And Church. We won't bring in a replacement until we shift Long, because we don't know for definte Long is going.

If no one bids a reasonable price for him, or bids at all, he can't go anywhere.

Christ, and him. :|

A striker that everywhere he's been on loan at a lower level he has still failed to hit the net regulary. He had that purple patch a couple of seasons ago but he doesn't fill me with any confidence.

I'd have liked us to get Iwelumo in a season or two ago but I'm not so sure now.

The club's already got their player in this mould (or similar at any rate) when they took a punt on Manset. We won't now sign another forward unless someone leaves as we've got our 4 options and that's pretty much all we're ever likely to have.

Is that policy right? Probably, although I'd like to see us buy more proven options and potentially move quicker to do so.

Is Iwelumo a good replacement for Long? No, I don't think he is these days.

It's not reeeeaalllly a purple patch if its 12 goals spread over 7 and a half months and 42 games now is it? Compared to say Lita scoring 9 goals in 9 games over 2 months and finishing the season with 14 from 38.

Closest he'll ever be to a purple patch.

12-14 goals in a season, not much of a difference tbf, especially seeing as church is a kid.
think we need to forget last season, he had a lot on his mind and it obviously affected him.
lets have another look this season. but if he gets 12 again, id be more than happy. its a decent return for a young striker at this level.
its an important year for him though, no doubt

12-15 over a season is probably what most strikers get.

It's very few who break the 20 goal margin.

you can see that just by looking at our strikers whove managed it in the past at this level

I think you've missed the point Brenders. I was explaining that Church didn't have a purple patch, because a purple patch is a short period with a large number of goals scored in it which isn't consistent with the rest of the time.

The point is Lita got 2/3s of his goals in fewer than 1/4 of his games. A purple patch. Whereas Church's goals were spread fairly evenly across the season. Not a purple patch.

i think you may have trouble defining the purpleness of patches tbf, but if you think the purpleness, and patchiness of litas short purple patch, is bigger and better that churches slightly longer purple patch, then i bow to your superior knowledge

Could be a one season (mediocre) wonder, but no way is it either purple (it just isn't that good a record) or a patch (it was too long a period).

BUt don't worry Brenders. I still loves you.

If Simon Church scores 15 goals this season I'll rub my purple patch all over his face!
