RoyalBlue The fact that people are desperately hoping that other clubs enter administration would suggest that they think we are pretty strong bets for relegation if survival comes down to results on the pitch.

I don't think many are hoping desperately for it. Just keeping it in their reckoning.

I am. I fear it is our only hope!

Without diminishing the gravity of the situation, I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who believe we are "certs" to go down. I've read that "there's no way this squad of players can keep us up", "if you're in the bottom five at Christmas you go down" (loved that one), and plenty more in the same line. We're one of five or six teams who are in serious danger, and one of about twelve teams who are in some danger of going down. Every now and then someone will trot out the idiocy that "the table doesn't lie" as evidence that we're going down, even though we're not actually in the relegation places

ROKERITE In the early months of the season, when some were bleating about possible relegation, I dismissed it as nonsense. Although it soon became apparent that promotion was highly unlikely, I'd no doubt that as the season progressed, and Rodgers sorted the team out, mid-table security was almost certain.
Then came the disgraceful and ridiculous sacking of Rodgers. However, even this didn't mean disaster. If Madejski had Dowie or Hoddle lined up then although the longer term future of Reading may have been damaged, the prospects for this season were quite probably brighter because of the change of manager.
Now, with the increasing likelihood that McDermott will be in charge, added to the decisive action by P.N.E., Sheffield Wednesday and others, relegation is a real danger. Nothing is certain; McDermott may be excellent; I hope he is. He's surely going to have a baptism of fire; the next month contains some very difficult matches. If Reading start February in the bottom three then it is too big a gamble not to bring in Ian Dowie. Otherwise, you may be renewing derby matches with your neighbours from High Wycombe next season.

who would be a bookie with football experts like you around to take all their money off them

What I was saying is that we were in the relegation places on the 21st Jan, it was just a gentle ribbing of your earlier post that's all. What did you think I was saying?

Jack Celliers I'd go along with most of that apart from the Ian Dowie thing. Anybody but Dowie please.

Rodgers could come back: he could appaer coming out of Madejski's shower claiming it had all been a dream or something.

I thought I had failed to predict the McDermott miracle.
