Snowball
Maguire
Ian Royal No one said that. Although at least he didn't directly cause us to conceed a goal

As good as. Only a weak finish/Alex Pearce's goalline clearance stopped it.

That fukk up was the worst all season bar Federici's against Stoke.

No, NOT. "as good as a goal". It WASN'T a goal. END

Feds has given away goals this season, McCarthy hasn't

The fact it didn't go in was nothing to do with McCarthy. Similarly if Federici had someone stood behind him on the line against Stoke it wouldn't have gone in either.

It was an appalling error. Whether or not Sigurdsson completes the tap in is neither here nor there wrt the error.

McCarthy had a bad game.

The point surely is whether you think McCarthy will make the same mistakes in the future and whether they will lead to goals being conceded up against whether you think Federici will continue to make the same mistakes that will also lead to further goals in the future.

If you think just because McCarthy giving the ball straight to an opposition forward didn't lead to a goal on this occasion means it won't in the future then I'm afraid you're a little deluded. I'm inclined to think it's first game nerves rather than a recurring problem but if it is an issue then "well they didn't score from it this time" really isn't a legitimate reason to not address the problem.

It could be said that Pearce was wildly out of position and was slow to realize help was needed (unless I'm thinking of a different goal), and he should never have needed to save that... It's hard enough to argue the better keeper on actual results, let alone trying to add in what could/would/should have happened. He was generally well-positioned and quick to respond. The back line was a complete mess.

Spot on.

Benefit of the doubt I guess but if he plays like that again then *shudder*

Depends.......had the other 10 had good games then McCarthy wouldn't have had anything to do and the mistake would never have happened

sandman There's nothing wrong with Feds girlfriend voicing an opinion,it's sexist to suggest otherwise and especially so to claim she should be subjected to physical violence for having an opinion.

If she was a man you people wouldn't say anything about it. She is a modern day woman she can say what she wants it's what good about the modern world whereas you people, you are what's bad with it.

This is probably the worst post on the entire thread, and there's some stiff competition.

The reaction would be exactly the same if it had been his brother or dad that bleated all over twitter. They, like his girlfriend, should know that, given their close relationship with a player, it is irresponsible and counterproductive to voice their opinions, for reasons that have now been clearly demonstrated

He had the ball at his feet, took a poor touch and gifted it to Defoe. Nothing to do with the performance of his team mates although he arrogantly tried to blame them after it happened.

The pass was put directly in front of him on his weaker foot......it should have been the other side, so he didn't need to take a touch and could have cleared it first time

Irrelevant! So Federici's error against Stoke wasn't really his fault because they shouldn't have been allowed to shoot?

I like the bit where McCarthy just chucked it straight back to a Spurs player.

Are Man City fans screaming for Joe Hart to be dropped after the howler for the Real third goal?

Probably not.

Has Hart made similar errors in his past two games?

Everyone gets a "freebie", one-off clanger.

It's when it happens in two or more games that questions are asked.

Nail on head there Vision, and McCarthy looked similarily nervous on his full debut before settling in nicely for the next dozen games.

An away game at West Brom is probably good next fixture for him as the pressure and scruntiny won't be quite so great. The only down side is that it's one of those games we'll be looking to pick up points from, so, from a Reading point of view it's quite an important fixture.
