At best it was a half-mistake. Not something anyone would even focus on if it wasn't for the three episodes of Some Keepers Do 'Ave 'Em prior to McCarthy's selection.

If a keepers job is to stop goals being scored then shouldn't they take some responsibility for every single goal that is scored against them? They are after all, THE only player that is involved in every single goal scored against.

No. Because sometimes a goal is unsaveable, or they've been put in an untenable position by the defence / midfield.

Just like it's a stikers job to score goals and every game they don't they need to take responsibility?

I think football is slightly more complicated than flipping a f/cking coin to see who wins.

You could make a good case that none of the five goals scored last night were save-able, all terrific finishes.

Keeper is the last line of defense, if a forward has got as far as the keeper and scores then it's the team in front of him that has failed to stop them.

The keepers that go right to the top, i.e the Shiltons or Jennings' of this world, are highly self-critical and do analyse whether there was anything at all that they could have done fractionally better. I have no idea whether McCarthy is of that mindset or not, but that is the way to the top.
All too often keepers blame anyone but themselves.
I'm happy to see McCarthy in the team btw and think he has a real chance of going right to the top in the game.

I'd say they would have to take some of the responsibility, yes. They are all happy to take responsibility when the team wins. If the team loses then I think every member of that team is responsible in some way.

Feds had an injury he had a bandage on his leg, and was clearly struggling to kick the ball at times, how do you lot not notice these things

AM has come in a doing a good job, he has had to wait patiently for his turn, Feds can now do the same to win his place back, makes for good competition between the players.

It has been noticed. It has also been noticed that Feds does not consider himself injured.

Alex Mcarthy IS good enough for the premier league

by Archie's penalty » 06 Oct 2012 17:17

Brilliant saves today mate. You got us the point there. In the relegation scrap we are clearly in, it could be crucial at the end of the day.

(Oh and Sandman you can shut up already).

A few lucky saves and suddenly he's our greatest keeper ever.

He'll never be as good as Shaka, Hahnemann or Federici.

He was outstanding today and hopefully he can keep it up. Federici must be seething watching McCarthy playing like that as it's very possible that he might not get back in to the side now!

Outstanding once again, and Adam Federici is fast becoming a distant memory.

I have to say as a Feds defender, AM was OUSTANDING today. As close to 10/10 that a keeper could get to and my man of the match by a mile. He can go on to be a real legend for us.

Feds, whilst I like him, has some SERIOUS competition here.

Keep it up mate!!!!!!!

The only thing I will say is part of a keeper's reponsibility is to organise the defence and our defence was very questionable today again. Perhaps that will come with time...

Phil Thompson claiming McCarthy is potential competition for current England number one Joe Hart.
