MmmMonsterMunch I am majorly impressed with our midfield today I have to say. They all did brilliantly. Best they've looked & the team picks itself now if they're all fit IMO

Couldn't agree more.

If this was the benchmark for the rest of the season, prepare yourself for another campaign in the top flight.

Akpan fully deserved his start (whilst Brian showed considerable guts in giving it to him) and for those of us who have wanted to see Jobi in the centre for a very long time, this was the best midfield 3 we've seen so far. Ok, Legs isn't perfect but he's a lot better than some suggest.

Sunderland are a decent outfit who will not be involved in the relegation scrap yet, but for a needlessly conceded penalty and a team of officials whose performance border on the disgraceful at times, in my view our victory would have been rather more comfortable than it turned out to be.

The summer transfer window, in hindsight, was McDermott's worst by a distance but January has seen us strengthen significantly without breaking the bank and this is now being heavily reflected on the pitch.

It simply beggars belief that there wasn't a queue stretching back to the M25 to sign Hope Akpan from Crawley; a player good enough for the top flight languishing in League One.

I agree totally that today's team looked like the finished article. Defenders who can defend, midfielders who can attack and defend and a varied group of strikers who can deal with most requirements.

We are no longer one of the 3 worst teams in this league. In fact, on current form we are one of the better ones. Enjoy.

shit biscuits. I hadn't noticed that but for McAnuff tangling his legs with the defender when he went down in the box Kebe would have had a hat-trick!

Yup, just watched the highlights too, (but went to the game)

Blackman did a lot of work, did very well, gets a 7.5 for his cameo.

Thought McAnuff could have got the penalty, but it would have been "soft".

Anyone notice Kelly's massive shove on a Sunderland player before he turned and also blocked Graham's goal-bound strike?

windermere_royal Thoroughly enjoyed the game, Sunderland certainly contributed to an cometative encounter, my men of the match, Feds and Pog who have both had their critics this season, I hope this goes some way to shutting them up for good.

Feds : 9. Back to his best , several fine saves and interceptions

Kelly: 7 cya Gunter
Pearce: 7 . solid but a couple of heart in mouth passes out
Mariappa:8 . best game in a Reading shirt, unlucky to hit the bar.
Harte: 7: heart on sleeve performance,

Kebe: 8. 2 fine goals and good defensively, not much going forward
Apkan: 8 seasoned PL pro surely?
Ledge: 7 recovered from a shakey start to give an assured midfield performance.
Jobi: 7. involved from the start. all action
McCleary:8 I like this guy, always ready to take on his man

Pog:9. it would be a 10 if it wasn`t for the pen, led the line superbly, taking some fearsome challenges, holding it up and bring the wide players into the game.

I dont think Gunter has to much to worry about with old grace kelley there

Rumpole Just watched 60 mins of highlights on Sky and must revise my scores: Pog goes up and joins Kebe on an 8, as does Feds. Pog would have been a 9 but for the penalty.

just watching the same highlights, the commie just said 14 points from a possible 19  ,

A good performance today and we were well worthy of the 3 points.

Whoever said Jimmy didn't do anything for 88 minutes!!! He was everywhere - tackling back, heading clear and going forward to good effect. If the ref hadn't blown for a foul against Jobi (how?) he would've had a perfect hat trick

Having been pegged back by, in my view, a dubious penalty I was very worried that we would get mugged and end up losing a game we deserved to win.

I thought their penalty was iffy at the time because O'Shea was stretching for it & only trying to put the ball out to the winger plus, having seen it again on SSN, Pog gets a bit of the ball before he gets the man. Also look at the reaction of O' Shea and the other Sunderland players, none of them claimed the penalty and O' Shea only reacts after he gets up and runs into Pog.

Royal Ginger First half was the first time this season we were fully in command of a game. Feds, Akpan & Kebe were top class, but I thought Kelly was majestic. He's exactly what we needed at RB. Such a cool head under pressure, gets the job done.

I thought that bringing Alf on was a mistake. We were fully on top with the 4-5-1, and Sunderland only started looking dangerous when we went 4-4-2. But hey, we won, so what do i know?

BenReadingFC They loved Jimmy when he tweeted what he wants and pissed off the Geordies. I bet they hate him now.

Had a look on there and they're all complimenting the stadium and the hospitality, seem like a nice bunch of guys, much prefer em to the geordies.

That is brilliant!

At the risk of sounding corny, what I would love to see/hear when we score late, which we have been known to do, is one side of the grounds shout "What time is it?" and the other side respond "It's Reading time!".

Just a thought...
