Here's how the league table has been round by round so far this season. Finally starting to stabilise?

Apparently, yes it is. Only for the last two weeks have teams on average shifted less than one place across the league.

It does seem we're still flying under the radar a bit, just looked at the promotion odds and we're down as 9th favourites right now, still take my guilty pleasure of going on to NSC and they don't really talk about us when they discuss threats to second place.

I would be lying if I said I thought we'd get promoted, I'd be delighted if we maintain a play-off position but it's a bit odd we don't seem to be perceived as a serious threat despite being up in third consistently the past few weeks.

Agreed. Currently 150/1 to win the league with sides below us on 66/1

Not even looking at the top 2. It's beginning to look a lot like the 106 season where by the top 2 are just much better than the rest and Sheff Utd were a good 11 points clear in 2nd by the end.

Newcastle and Brighton just seem to keep winning games. Closing that gap would be a real bonus.

Showing the gap a little clearer, he's the league table but giving points accumulated over time.

Two clear breakaways at the top, and one at the bottom.

The Fulham and Leeds losses have hindered us making it 3 running away... we looked to be opening a pretty nice gap ourselves until then.

Agreed with this, it did start to look like we were creating a gap and even if we weren't closing in on the top 2 we were making 3rd place our own. Now everyone has caught up a bit, it was imperative that we won on Saturday as everyone else won around us.

Although to be honest, I would be happy if 3rd-6th pulled away from 7th, I don't mind shuffling around between 3rd and 6th.

Quiet afternoon, so used the BBC league tables to pull together a table based on current form (last 10 games).

Shows current league position and points won over 10 games. We're 3rd.

Where teams are tied have used current league position to decide places.

    Position Points Last 10
    Brighton 1 26
    Derby 7 25
    Reading 3 24
    Leeds 5 24
    Newcastle 2 21
    Aston Villa 10 20
    Sheff Weds 6 19
    Fulham 8 18
    Barnsley 9 18
    Huddersfield 4 17
    Preston 13 15
    Wolves 15 12
    Cardiff 19 12
    Birmingham 11 11
    Ipswich 16 11
    Forest 18 11
    Brentford 14 10
    Burton 21 8
    Blackburn 22 8
    Bristol City 17 7
    Wigan 23 7
    Rotherham 24 7
    Norwich 12 6
    QPR 20 4

Funnily enough that's more or less the final top 6 (not in order) I was predicting last month to my gambling addicted security guard. Swap out Villa for Birmingham and it would be spot on.
Also told him Brighton will only go up if they finish top 2 as history has shown over the last 3 seasons they don't love playoffs..

Another reason that makes Brighton and Reading completely interchangeable as clubs.

Beware come back when you've won 18 syndrome. Brighton have a great chance to do it this season and almost right on the 10 years behind us schedule. Give it three years and they could have surpassed the bar we set.

I think a point was probably realistic last night. Couldn't see us winning. Couldn't see us. Should have been abandoned earlier, as many have said before.

Anyway, with Huddersfied and Sheffield Wed playing ''easier'' games today, it looks like we may drop to 5th today, which made me wonder - is it easier to chase or be chased, hunter or hunted? What is more motivating from a sports psychology point of view?

Well, both Leeds and Huddersfield have drawn their games so it's down to Sheff Weds to chase today now...

In all honesty, I don't think there is an answer to your question, I guess it's all down the said teams psychological mindset!

...and Wednesday are losing.

I'm more and more convinced that we are going up this season, if only for the fact that since I started supporting, we've always got relegated I'm a year ending in 8.

Also, in the Mad Stad era, we always seem to win promotion after 4 years in a division.
