if doobs goes fair enough,

but surely bennett would see himself as pushing into the 1st team next season too, as would pearce?
if it becomes clear it aint happening they wont want to stay

and bikey was annoyed that he lost his place to duberry this year
so i dont know if "just happy to be here" is really true

brendywendy ummmmmm

Sorry mate, the quote seems to have gone awry so no idea how to reply sensibly !

Just a few comments:

Brown is not a youngster - he is 23
Duberry has played plenty of PL games and in the Champions League
Mate is an U21 international with Cl experience, being 'unknown' here doesn't mean he is no good
Bikey hasn't really got a suspect temperament - a daft headbutt on a preason tour is rather thin evidence for that ! Since then he has been peacemaker more than trouble maker.

We did have 7 centre backs at the start of the season. I don;t see much chance of us signing Mensah (unknown foreigner) and Barnett (unproven youngster) but if we do add 1 and release 3 then 7 is not really a problem (assume Pearce on loan, 1 injured at any one time, 3 on first team duty, 2 in the reserves)

Just a few comments:

Brown is not a youngster - he is 23-quite young! lol
Duberry has played plenty of PL games and in the Champions League,
-i am aware of this, he also has cupwinners cup, winners medal dont you know.
Mate is an U21 international with Cl experience, being 'unknown' here doesn't mean he is no good,-hey i love the guy, want him to stay, but unproven, not ready to step straight in.
Bikey hasn't really got a suspect temperament - a daft headbutt on a preason tour is rather thin evidence for that ! Since then he has been peacemaker more than trouble maker.
-i was talking about how he was viewed at the start of the year. -also not ready to walk straight into the team.

ok, sounds good!

I was reading about Bolton's concern about the African Nations Cup in midwinter when players can be away for a long time.
With Sonko and Bikey likely to be taking part we are going to need quite a few centre-backs on our books.
With Pearce probably needing another season,Bennett maybe likewise,Mate unproven,Sodje and Brown likely to go I wouldn't be surprised to see us signing yet another especially with Coppell having spoken about needing a quick defender.

A good signing and at £1.2m very good business. he knows how we work, likes it here, has proved himself more than adequate in the Premiership and has bags of potential.

I think Brown and Sodje will go in the summer. Duberry's contract is up at the end of next season and was signed as a stopgap.

That leaves 3 established CB in Ivar, Sonko and Bikey and two more with potential - Bennett and Pearce, make that 3 if Mate stays.

Do France play in the ANC ?

I guess signing Mensah would cover us though !

to be honest, i think mensah isnt in the scence at the momment. the club has just announced that they will be signing andre bikey on a 3 year deal and any more defenders would be ridiculous to be fair.

There will be more defenders signed - at least 2 if Coppell was correct at the forum and possibly more.

I am assuming Bikey counts as one of those two, as technically he wasn't signed.

Yes he was !
Coppell was talking about movement in and out and Bikey has just had a change of contract status !
Coppell was pretty clear that there will be defenders leaving and defenders joinig over the summer.

think doobs may leave then if it's true that he will brign in more defenders, meaning that doobs was a pointless signing.

He was on loan, the club didn't own him. You know what Coppells like with Double Speak.

Doobs was signed specifically to cover Sonks injury. If Sonks hadn;t been hurt then we wouldn't have signed him. He gave us a very experienced player who had been playing regularly at a good level.
How pointless is that ?

In the context of what Coppell said it was clear that there would be players coming and going in defence. He seperately talked about being in negotiations with Moscow over Bikey and about the numbers of defenders we have on the books.
It's hard to convince someone who wasn't there, but the various remarks made by Coppell left little doubt in my mind that he would be making changes amongst the defensive personnel, and exercising the preexisting option to buy Bikey doesn't do that !

When you think Sheff Utd paid £3million for Claude Davis and we're paying £1.2 for a 22 year old who is raw, but will get better working with an excellent defensive coach in Wally Downes, I think we can say it's a very good signing.

West Ham paid about £100,000 per minute of Matthew Upson's Hammers career.....

Bargain !
