Archie's penalty
Coppelled Streets Not likely, basically.

Finishing 7th is a massive task, let alone 5th!

Sounds like you've swallowed the Coppell phrasebook...

Just a look at the table did it for me!
It would be an almighty achievement to finish 7th. The company we're keeping is exceptional.

You are of course right - to finish 9th would be fantastic but we definitely have the chance to finish 7th. I hope the atmosphere against Newcastle is amazing (it normally is in a monday nite game)- if we get behind the lads in that one and we get the victory we're basically gonna finish at least 9th. I really hope we go out positively and get the win...

Gutted I'm missing it, but I shall be screaming at the telly!

Just hope we stay in there right until the final day of the season. Blackburn away could be another Leicester! 8)

No, I don't think so - but we are now mathematically sure of finishing at least 12th, and a win on Monday would put us mathematically 10th or higher.

floyd__streete It should however be good enough for a splendid top half finish and it also means I won't have to save for expensive overseas trips next season

mmm............I'm praying next season's Away Season Ticket will not require a passport :?

Given the sheer joy etched on Bikey's face when he signed last week, Dynamo Moscow on a Thursday night ain't what I had in mind.......................come back, Chesterfield, and your wonky spire, we love you, really!!! :?

We ain't that far off... Fantastic victory in terms of position tonight. Blackburn are seven behind with three left they may feel it's beyond them now so last day won't be going so all out. A victory over Watford would put us in an amazing position...

Remaining games to decide the european spots:

West Ham v Bolton
Bolton v Aston Villa

Everton v Portsmouth
Chelsea v Everton

Reading v Watford
Blackburn v Reading

Everton v Portsmouth
Portsmouth v Arsenal

Charlton v Tottenham
Tottenham v Blackburn
Tottenham v Man City

With Everton Playing Portsmouth that should help us, but I can see the final positions as follows:

5 Bolton
6 Tottenham
7 Reading
8 Everton
9 Portsmouth

Good enough for me, must check flights from JFK/Newark to remote east european airports!

I think Bolton will lose to West Ham. I'm going to stick my neck out and go

5. Spurs
6. Reading
7. Everton
8. Bolton
9. Portsmouth

If we win both our games, Spurs have to win all three to get ahead of us, but I'm predicting 4 points for us, 7 for Spurs and three each for the others.

I'd include Blackburn as they play both us and Spurs. Could really have an impact on things.

Whilst Blackburn do have a game in hand, they are also 6 points adrift of the others and have about much chance of European football as Pardew has of not taking two clubs down in one year.

What a dream of a season! Still can't believe we are in with a shot of finishing 5th, behind Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd.

floyd__streete Don't really fancy our chances of finishing 7th, never mind 5th.

Everton will be anxious looking at their remaining fixtures, but apart from that bad results for us today in terms of UEFA Cup qualification. Bolton will be pleased with a point, I didn't expect Pompey to beat Liverpool (at least not until I saw Liverpool's line-up today) and I thought that Boro's decent home form would deny Spurs all three points.

Blackburn are good at home and beat us with plenty to spare at the Madj so I don't fancy us getting much there. Newcastle at home is difficult to call, Watford I'd be disappointed if we didn't beat them now. A conservative estimate from Floyd is 4 points from these 3 games which I don't think will be enough for european football. It should however be good enough for a splendid top half finish and it also means I won't have to save for expensive overseas trips next season

Floyd, you better open that overseas savings account! We already have 3 points in the bank! So here is where we stand with my predictions:

Bolton (55 points / -3 GD) (61 points 6th)
West Ham away - W
Villa home - W

Everton (54 points / +13 GD) (57 points 8th)
Portsmouth home - W
Chelsea away - L

Reading (54 points / +7 GD) (60 points 7th)
Watford home - W
Blackburn away - W

Spurs (53 points / 0 GD) (62 points 5th)
Charlton away - W
Blackburn home - W
Man City home - W

Pompy (53 points / +6 GD) (54 points 9th)
Everton away - L
Arsenal home - D

We really need to get max points from the last two. Hopefully Chelsea puts out their best lineup against Everton for the last game. With every win, the dream gets a little closer!

Spot, on.

0-0 with Watford, victory at Blackburn only for other results to go against us. I see Bolton, Everton and Spurs all finishing above us. Though with Fat Sam gone Bolton could fall apart and we might sneak in there.

I think we will beat Watford with a scrappy goal. Then we need to draw with Blackburn in my estimation to get 7th. This is as Everton play portsmouth and Blackburn also play Spurs. I think four points will do it...

And to all of you out there who write off Blackburn - beware!!! They are a very good team who completely outplayed us in the Second Half at the Madejski. They desperately want to get into Europe and will take the Intertoto if they can - ie finishing 8th. A lot boils down to whether they beat Spurs away - if they don't there's little chance of getting 8th. That doesn't mean they won't beat us on the last day though...

as I look at those fixtures I see us missing out with Spurs coming in at 7th, however it would only take one game to be a draw in our favour and we will be in, I see 3 pts each but spurs to get 6 from their 3 games.

Tho I think it should have been played by now as it gives them an unfair advantage.

Saw a interesting point that Blackburn's best chance of Europe will be to ensure that Spurs do finish in the top 7 and that we don't as then they can pick up the Intertoto spot (assuming Bolton and Everton are also top 7 and Pompey haven't applied)

To that end it might actually be in their interests to not try to hard in their game against Spurs, as if they do win it would then increase the chance that Spurs would finish 8th and them pick up the Intertoto place instead.

Almost as good a conspiracy theory as the one that involves Wigan and Sheff U still needing a point each on the last day to send West Ham down.
