Player of the Season

by Westwood52 » 13 Jul 2020 09:58

Going to be bloody difficult this year, that’s if anybody can be bothered.Rino and Yids were shoe ins last year. While our league position is much improved over recent seasons,it’s been a very mediocre year;with few exceptions.

Bit boring voting for GKs but Rafael Cabral get my vote. What a signing he’s been.

My shortlist.

Swift
Meite
Rinomhota
Morrison
Cabral
Pele
Yiadom
Moore

I think in that order

Morrison, Meite or Rafael.

Think I'd have to go for Rafael. I think he and Morrison have been a big part of our defence tightening up this season (well that and having a more defensively astute manager) but I don't remember Rafael having any real howlers this season and he's kept us in some games.

Think the top 3 will be, maybe not in this order:

Rafael
Meite
Swift or Morrison

Meite
Swift
Rafael

In that order for me. Meite can be very frustrating but 16 goals is an excellent return. The defensive side of his game has also improved a good deal.
He also lost his father this season at a very young age. So I think that’s makes his achievements all the more impressive.

Meite
Rafael
Swift

I've always liked Meite and backed him on here when so many didn't. Glad he's scoring goals and proving his doubters wrong. As Zip said, he's been through a lot with his father dying. He also had that twat racially abuse him as well.

Rafael has had a very good debut season, keeping us in a lot of games. I also like the fact he has pretty much learned English within the space of a few months and can now do an entire interview.

Swift has matured well this season and has got back to somewhere near the form he had in his first six months at the club before England under 21s managed to injure him. He still does some unnecessary things in his own half but they have become fewer. He has added a lot of workrate to his game as well.

It has been a few years since we have had a standout player and the same goes for this latest mediocre season.
I wouldn't argue with any of those mentioned by others, i.e. Swift, Cabral or Meite. but if pushed would probably go for Swift.

Earlier in the season I would have chosen Swift but now I think Morrison would be my pick due to his consistency and how he has been chosen as the senior CB over Moore in recent weeks. Rafael and Meite have been constant performers too.

Morrison, Rafael and Swift have been our three most consistent players throughout the season, although Swift less so in recent weeks so probably in the order listed

Meite and Rinomhota both had pretty poor seasons up until December but then we remembered what their best positions were and they’ve both a strong second half to the season

Puscas also been improved since February time but he’s had one too many stinkers this season to be in the reckoning

Wycombe Royal Morrison for me. Not done much wrong all season, a consistent performer.

I seem to remember Morrison being directly responsible for three or four goals against us pre Xmas.So I discount him.But I agree he has been excellent in 2020.
I would go for Rafa.No real howlers, without quite being very good.Still a solid reliable goalie is a good base to start from.

Given I struggle to remember more than about a month back I’d go McIntyre, Osho, Meite and Morrison as my candidates.
Others may have done well in the Old World....

Think he has a wobble before Xmas, but started the season pretty strong (unlike the rest of the team).

He's mostly been a revelation. A 'proper' defender if you will.

Had Morrison down as a potential 4th then remembered he had a brief spell of "meh" so just stuck with the main 3.
