Injury watch 2024/25

by morganb » 28 Jun 2024 09:55

Both the academy squad and the main team returned to training this week. No injuries have been reported so far but it is only a matter of time so just getting the thread set up.

Yiadom out for another 6-8 weeks according to Selles. Didn't seem concerned about Knibbs, Abrefa or Dorsett.

Now I'm not sure, but aren't our current full back options:

RB: Yiadom, Abrefa, Ryan
LB: Dorsett, Ryan.

So we only have one fit fullback and he's played how many senior minutes?

Tbf, if Selles is relaxed it's probably because at least one of the following is true:
A) Abrefa is expected to be fit in time for the season
B) Dorsett is expected to be fit in time for the season
C) New signing(s) at FB are planned
D) Selles isn't expecting it to be his problem by the start of the season.

E) Just starting the season at all has massively exceeded his expectations over recent months.

I imagine Rushesha will start the season at RB if both Yiadom and Abrefa are injured; I think that's where he played when he was at Swansea (for their U21s). That's unless Selles wants to have Mbengue there and play someone else at centre-back instead.

Ryan injured after tackle against Woking. Will require surgery.

That's gutting for him. He had a chance this season, and would have surely been a shoe in for EFL Cup and Pizza cup at least.

Annoying for us too with Yiadom out.

Really unfortunate for him. Depending on Dorsett’s fitness (anyone know how severe his injury is?), I think he would’ve started the season at LB. I’m sure he’ll be back in the picture once his fit though.

It seems Garcia isn’t ready, so it’s possible we’ll be playing someone who isn’t a LB at Birmingham (perhaps Abrefa or Rushesha, with the other at RB). Osho may have entered that conversation. That all assumes the takeover doesn’t happen and we sign a LB before the season starts.

There were a few rumors we have a few players lined up ready to sign as soon as this takeover gets over the line!! which makes perfect sense i guess, however, i guess this all hinges on the speed of the takeover.
Would think a LB, RB, LW and forward and possibly a CB.

Even if true, and rumours have been unreliable to date, I'd be surprised if any new signings start against Birmingham. It's too late, if they're a FT they won't have had a pre season. You'd be looking at the first international break before they make an impact.

We also need to file accounts before we sign anyone, it's an EFL rule for overdue accounts.

Is the restriction on signing players or registering them ?
I believe there is a difference, although whether it’s an actual one I’m not sure.
I can recall situations where players have joined clubs but their registration has not been completed so they can’t actually play. We COULD potentially sign players on contracts but delay registering them if that was a ‘thing’. Risks on both sides and maybe just pointless but it would give us security of having people committed and players an income.

There's a soft embargoes and a hard embargo. We're under soft embargoe until 2025 no matter what; no fees and new players need EFL approval. The penalty for late accounts and overdue creditor balances is a hard embargo; no signings, end of story.

If they're lined up waiting to go, they could easily be training with us already if they're free agents. And if they're not free agents, it's not like we can pay money to prize them away from clubs so they could still be training with us, but either way they'd still be training with their current club.

So it's not like we should be talking about players who aren't fit.
