Contract news

by Behindu » 14 May 2007 16:32

Reading Football Club have offered new contracts to Ulises De La Cruz and Simon Cox.

De La Cruz, 33, joined from Aston Villa last summer, and he played 15 games, scoring one goal.

20-year-old striker Cox is a product of our Academy and ended the season on loan at Northampton, notching three in 6(+2) games.

Director of Football Nick Hammond told readingfc.co.uk, "We have made offers to Ulises and Simon and hope that they will be resolved in the near future."

Four young players are also out of contract, and Nick added, "In the next few weeks we will be sitting down with Aaron Brown, Ben Hamer, Jonathan Hayes and Scott Davies to discuss their futures."

Nick also confirmed that Graham Stack, Scott Golbourne, Alex Pearce and Curtis Osano have returned after loan spells away from the Club.

Steve Sidwell will be leaving Madejski Stadium after his contract expired, and Nick said, “Steve Sidwell has been magnificent for this football club. He’s a top player and a tremendous professional who sets a fantastic example for any youngster.

“Everybody at Reading loves him and we wish him every success in the future – he faces a big decision and we all hope it works out well for him.â€

This is probably Dela's last contract so I would reckon he'll be looking for at least 2 years but we don;t usually give 2 years to 30+ year olds do we ?

If he thinks what he has done this season might earn him a longer deal with one of the promoted clubs he may decide to chance his arm.

I think he has done really well for us and confounded the people who took cheap shots at him when he signed.

I think he will sign. He will get more playing time in the prem with us than if he signed elsewhere.

Not necessarily....

I'm not up to speed with who plays right back for Sunderland, Brum of the playoff sides but if they decide they need an experienced player to fill a gap he could be a regular for them. Likewise Fulham, Wigan etc. When Murts is fit I suspect he will be back in the team and Dela will be on standby again.

I think I'd like to see our new £2m right back starting next season otherwise that looks like a bit of bad business.

Unless one of Murty of Halford can play at right wing when Littles inevitably out injured.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Coppell uses our £2.5 million utitlity player !

Would be a shame to restrict him to one of the many positions we know he can play....

pleased we are offering Cox a deal - It looks like the other 4 are on the way out and I think that is fair enough. I hope and think DLC will stay another year

What makes you think the other 4 are on the way out? They have all been out on loan and have just returned, OK Brown maybe but Golbourne will get a new contract, Osano? And was the other one Pearce? He will get a new contract for sure

I'd get rid of Stacky, he's a good keeper but Federici has shown he is more than capable of stepping up over the next couple of seasons to be a regular - perfect Marcus replacement when he signs for LA Galaxy/Barcelona.

Stack seems to spend his loan spells on the bench as well as his first club... Arsenal/Reading, Reading/Leeds. Might as well let him go to a club he'll play first team football considering we have bought that 18 yr-old Danish lad with outstanding potential.

Feddy for Aussie!!! We really do need a song for him considering he was short-listed for save of the season... oh and Marcus made the most Prem league saves - 162.
