On leaving after the final whistle today the two blokes about 4 seats along from us were screaming to Shorey to "eff off". I said to one of them, quite nicely in fact, "awww he wasn't that bad" - to which I was subjected to a tirade of foul mouthed abuse, telling me to shut up as I know nothing about the game, asking me about what the West Ham fans had been singing (i.e. you should have come to West Ham) and continually yelling in between to Shorey to "eff off" again.

His neanderthal brother then decided to chip in and say it was Shorey's worst performance ever, to which Schards disagreed. Then he said to Schards "are you saying that's his best performance ever then?" To which Schards replied that of course it wasn't, it just wasn't his worst performance ever, although he didn't have a particularly good game and in his opinion he was worse against Everton.

These two knuckle heads then decided to tell me and Schards to "shut the eff up or they'd shut us up"

I'm all for people having an opinion and I actually only commented to these blokes because in the past they've been ok and said hello when I've squeezed past them for my usual toilet break 3 minutes before half time.

Some other people told us that they're always like that when we've lost or played badly and one guy had previously reported them to the club when they had a similar go at him a few years ago and they had received a letter. I could contact the club and get their season tickets revoked. But I'm not going to be that nasty. I just hope that when they have calmed down they realise that they were a tad over reacting. They've been going long enough to have seen us lose at home to much lesser teams in much lower divisions, so I hope they think on and realise that we ALL want Reading to do well in every game, but in reality that just doesn't happen.

I hope they're nobbers, or someone they know is a nobber and can point them in this direction. I'll accept their apology willingly.

If, however, they do that again and speak to me or anyone else around us like that again and I WILL report you and you WILL have your season tickets revoked.

Much love.

I share your sentiments entirely;; I know this is a reason why my brother always declines my invitations to come to a home match !!!!.....I was really quite 'annoyed' with the behaviour of the bloke who sits behind me having to 'scream' abuse for every mistake they made and then for his son to bawl out their faults too, as if he was some professional coach. However, what really bothered me today was an incident at half time when queuing in the north stand concourse. Somebody in the front of the queue starting having an argument with an other bloke in the next queue, calling him a pr*ck and other such names and, initially, I thought they were messing about as one appeared to be smiling. Next thing I know, the bloke in front is flat on his back on the floor with broken glasses.....the other bloke immediately admits he was wrong but just walks off down the gangway to B15. It got reported but by which time the stewards turned up, the assailant had gone. Others went off after him but I doubt if they caught him. This was my first match
this season........hmmm ! What with the result not going our way, this
wasnt the best day I have had in a while !!!!

Oh yes, the studied grief reaction. Don't you know that it makes them better fans than the likes of you and me RL??! A bit like England fans who decide that they want to wreak havoc when we go out a major competition....it's not their fault, they're just feeling it more deeply than us

If all fans behaved like that, they would have been playing football behind closed doors for years ! What about the fans who DO feel deeply about their team but have nevertheless still a bit more consideration for others -
it is possible, isnt it , or do all 'true' football fans have to be type-caste into the neanderthal category ?! :?

I swear with the best of them I'm afraid - but it was threatening to hit me which I took exception to. I think I'll ignore them next home game.

I would swear too but don't want to encourage my son, not that he needs to be encouraged......He did a great impersonation of 'Nan' from the Catherine Tate Show, as we were leaving the stands yesterday, saying
' What a load of old sh*t !' Of course, he was chastised for such abusive behaviour !

Violence is something I would never condone. However, people are entitled to shout what they want, unfortunately it is freedom of speech. By the sounds of it, you met 2 louts who wanted to vent their anger. As I said, I do not condone threatening or violent behaviour, but challenging his opinion was always going to stir this person further. Safe thing to do is to not say anything, people get emotionally involved in football and this persons emotions were clearly running high. Just give him time and I am sure he wouldve Chillaxed. Challenging his opinion was fuel to the fire.

I understand what you are saying but can you explain why their right to shout what they like trumps RL's right to say what she likes. If anything it should be the other way around as she only expressed it to the relevant person whereas they seem to be expressing it indiscriminantly.

It annoys me when the fact we lost is seen as an excuse to be rude to fellow fans but using it as an excuse to threaten vioilence is not acceptable and I would support RL in her intention to forgive them this time but this time only.

BTW interesting how many women have responded especially as we cannot know anything about football have been born with the wrong gene combination :D

It appears my post may well have been misinterpreted. All I mean is the safe thing to do is to ignore them. They obviously get a rise out of it so it fuels them on. I dont condone what they threatend, and I believe it should be taken up with the proper authorities within the club. All I am saying is they are exercising their right to free speech. You may well feel the urge to exercise your right, and fair play to you for doing it, but if something is on fire do not add fuel.

I do understand what you're saying Arfnip. In fact, if I'd never spoken to these blokes before I almost certainly wouldn't have said anything, but I was trying to be nice and calm them a little - I shan't bother in future though. I've learned my lesson. Anyway, no harm done - I was just a bit riled when I got home and had a rant about it.

If you have spoken to them before then fair play to you for trying to make them chillax. It's just people who you dont know how they react you should avoid, which in this case I thought it was.

The kid in front of me kept turning around and shouting at me as if I was going to give him a pat on teh head for his borderline racist posturing.

That said, the guy next to me was nice. Both of us, in a row, arms crossed, monologue of sheer, unremitting gloom.

Very true, but there are laws that mean uttering certain words could mean you end up in trouble.

I can only assume that you annoyed them throughout the game - perhaps you are one of those people who don't realise how irritating they are - and your Shorey comment was simply the straw that broke the camel's back.

I expect you are completely and utterly wrong as there are 4 people who sit between us and them and during the match - I couldn't hear them and I'm most certain they couldn't hear me. So why you assumed that, I have no idea.

Apologies Woodley, I think you misunderstood. I meant it very much that the majority of us DO have more consideration, but they, with their 'look at me' upset, are trying to make out that they are better fans than the majority who can manage to behave with a modicum of decorum.

In relation to the highlighted part, it's a reasonable assumption having read your post. Two people were wound up. Instead of just leaving them to it, you thought that you would say something which challenged them. Hence - you are one of those people who don't realise how irritating they are.

Probably. I had to wait behind them in the row as we were waiting to leave the ground, as there was a bit of a queue.

Tell me where you sit and I'll come and irritate you instead next time.

No need - I'm about four people away from you.
