A plaque like the Maurice one will be at least a couple of grand.

Installation is a big job and they are complicated to make.

Doubt the club will pay anything towards it and hopefully it will be funded the same was as the Maurice one was (a mix of STAR and donations). I woul dimagine the VPs would want to contribute as well.

A statue would be massively more expensive - and totally wrong IMHO. It has been looked at in the past and you are talking tens of thousands of pounds. I would have no doubt that Roy would be mortified if anyone spent that on a memorial for him - he'd say give the money to the Academy

I believe Mr Mad is looking in to having a statue of himself, on the event of his passing away. Tenders have been sent to various sculptures so JM can choose the one which most resembles him. It will be around 20ft in hieght on a solid marble plinth and situated in front of the mega store.

The statue will eventually be self funding as plans are in place to put a bow tie on the statue of our longest serving chairman, this will rotate and double up as a wind turbine supplying enough electricity to keep the mega store open an extra hour after mid week games.

Why is installation a big job? Don't they drill into the brick work and fix it that way? I actually have a contact and I shall enquire of them how much they would charge and inform STAR if it's wayyyy cheaper than a couple of grand.

I think the going rate for a statue is probably £60-80,000 and a bit of a risk if you recall the Ted Bates monster down at St Mary's. The only way a statue would get funded (whoever it was) would be by public subscription - you'd need fund-raising like the WAGS year one effort for charity. Can't recall any other kind of fund-raising on that scale

I heard the Maurice plaque was over £3000 and that was 6-7 years ago.

RL - I jest that's it's charged literally £50 a letter but when you look at the Maurice plaque it probably costs more than that per letter!!

I've got some plasticine. Maybe I could make a statue?

My rates are very reasonable.

I have some spare 10 and 12.5kg weights , they are circular, we could paint them nicely, put a hook in the wall, and use the middle hole to hang them on.

It's not just hung on a hook !
It's built into the wall hence they need to remove bricks and then insert the plaque and rebuild. IIRC it was a full day job to install it.
The plaques are also made individually so it's not just a question of buying a circular bit of stone and painting on it.
No doubt some one will come up with a '£50 gov' type price and I'd be pretty confident a simple 2d disc screwed to the wall would cost less the Maurice plaque was a quality item that will probably outlast the stadium !

OK, so far we've got a bit of plasticine, a heavy circular plaque with a hole in it and 20p.

Well, it's a start.
