Song Sheets For Stoke

Jay o/ Thought i'd add this here from the Robbie Savage thread:

He made a good point tonight. The Madejski Stadium is too nice a place to come. The fans aren't very boisterious, the scenery is nice, nice pitch etc.. Big clubs will come here and feel very comfortable.

But you try and sing and make things a bit more unwelcoming for the opposition fans and players, and the stewards get into over-drive.

So what can we do?

Riot.

Presume the people moaning about this are the same that criticise the West Stand for being silent.

This sheets will allow the newer fans to feel more involved in the atmosphere, and hopefully join in.

If the club want to expand the ground to >30k next year, then they need to find ways of attracting and keeping new fans. This is something that may well help in doing that, as well as trying to ensure that more parts of the ground are involved in making a better atmosphere.

Honestly, some of you lot are pretty pathetic, who the hell would let themselves be embarrassed by something as trivial as this :|

Compo's Hat The club's marketing department is so out of touch they think a Lady Gaga song would make it to a football chant! Come back Boyd Butler, all is forgiven.

I've said this for ages. where do the club employ these marketing people from? Turn up into Reading and you wouldn't know the club existed as the Stadium is out on a limb and there really is no marketing at all. Go to NY for instance and you can't help but notice adverts for Knicks/Rangers games etc....

I have it on very good authority that this idea was indeed run past STAR - who were delighted to co-sign it

The mind boggles..

if you dont like em, make a paper aeroplane, or hit your neighbour with it, or just throw it on teh floor.
these are for all the kids , and newbies. and if it helps them get the idea that singing and making a noise is what theyre supposed to do, then its a good thing

totally gay, and not for me, but good

You just couldn't make this up.

Um, Chelsea had songsheets last season mate! My boss was ribbed about it for weeks after!!

AND THOSE MASSIVE FLAGS!!

It's precisely because we gave them such a ribbing that this is such a source of shame for us now...

I'm going to be inconsistent and blinkered by ardent fanhood by saying that, although it was plastic when Chelsea did it, we're just looking to include our young fanbase. The difference being that we haven't just spent multi-millions on a global fanbase that has never given half a wet fart about the club before.

What football clubs need are people who actually watch football/enjoy it/are/have been a supporter - working within departments such as Marketing, in order that they put their experience of attending football matches to good use.

Rubbish.

People sing along even if they get the words wrong. If people WANT to sing, they'll sing. No amount of song sheets will change that.

Through choice m8, song sheets won't change that.

Taking in the atmosphere as a kid and learning songs by listening is far more fun than being handed a sheet of paper, w8ing to clap along to the handful of gimp chants the club have chosen to print

Royal Lady Rubbish.

Disagree. Song sheets will make those fans who feel slightly nervous about making a tit of themselves more comfortable with the idea of chanting. No coincidence that when they printed the words for chants last season it produced the best atmosphere, particularly in the west stand.

I agree, it is more fun, but sadly given the current atmosphere in the Mad Stad a lot of youngsters who sit in the west stand aren't able to do this.

Ah, that. I remember the noise from the clapper things, but don't remember any more singing at all.
