The first Forest game was the first game of that season so you're bound to get more fans in for the following reasons and from two different perspectives:

Reading

New ambitious manager who has promised a fluent continental style of play ( )
Academy prospects getting the opportunity in the first team
BR promising "if you're good enough, you'll play" which was a very welcome change from "Coppell's favourites" at the time

Forest

Had spent a lot in the summer
Genuine prospects of promotion
First game of new season attracts fans for the "away day"

To be fair, I'm surprised the two attendances mentioned aren't much more further apart.

He hates the concept of anyone he believes to be his social inferior being successful.

made up spurious nonsense anyone?

the bloke was the son of a single mother- back when it wasnt ok, from a poor back ground, then had a polish step dad.
hes so far from socially superior to anyone, and i doubt very much that he thinks he is.

Have you met and spoken to him? He may not believe he is socially superior but that wouldn't necessarily stop him from regarding himself as superior to most.

Then there is also what some say about the nouveau riche.........

Certainly have, at the Party After Peterborough amongst other occasions. Always found him to be a pleasant chap to talk to, and certainly never got the impression he was looking down on anyone.

Still, don't let someone's real-life experience colour your prejudices, eh?

If you look at all Championship clubs there gates have been down on the opening two weekends even Derby were well under capacity. Big spending high flying QPR could only muster 12,000 against Scunny.

People can't afford to go to football these days, but anyway, another matter.

Boro at home to Sheff Utd on the weekend, Attendance: 14633... so I'm gonna guess 13,000 Boro fans for arguments sake.

Now that is manure. Proud to be a Royal, 17, 324 is brilliant compared to that.

Not really comparable - 3pm Saturday for RFC vs Forest, 1:15pm Sunday for Boro vs Sheff U.

TBF, that was live on TV but I will admit to noticing how empty the ground looked.

actually i have met and spoken to him, and in my expert people reading opinion, i reckon hes very insecure, and he tries so hard exactly because he worries about his own social standing, and how people view him because of it.

agree on the veuveau riche thing though. a proper richie wouldnt feel the need to over project his wealth

Middlesboro 14,633
Bristol City 13,585
Burnley 15,516
Coventry 13,169
Preston 9,666
QPR 12,046
Reading 17,324

Our gate was NOT a bad gate. Less than 10,000 at Preston for a Championship match. You have to go back many many years to the last time we had less than 10,000 for a league match.
Where have all the Burnley season ticket holders gone ?
Coventry playing a home local derby - just over 13,000 !!
Big-spending, high-flying QPR....just over 12,000 !!

In the current economic climate, our gates ain't bad.
