New national league cup competition

by bloody Volvo driver » 20 Sep 2024 07:59

Launched yesterday between conference prem sides and PL2 U21s, 4 game round robin then knockout.

For us old timers, our first fixture certainly catches the eye.

A : Aldershot Town October 15th

Many a tale from trips to the Rec in the 70s and 80s

Another Bristol Motors thing only this time it's all the PL2 sides rather than just the supposed elite PL2 sides. Can't see fans of any FL/PL sides being particularly bothered by yet another meaningless cup game so guess it must be for NL fans to look forward to seeing the possible superstars of tomorrow (until you find out the elite PL2 sides start watering down their u21s sides with u18s).

Reaction in non league seems pretty negative, seems pointless. Being promoted as a way of giving the PL2 sides the chance to play against older players which is rather patronising to the NL teams.
