Our Infrastructure

*** Warning, Warning, Positivity In Abundance. Leave Now If Easily Offended. HNA? Will NOT Accept Any Responsibility For Those Angered By Heart Warming Topics ***

You compare this football club to many in the Championship, and it now stands out in many positive ways compared to how we looked at things about 11 years ago PP (Pre Plastic).

I used to look at clubs like Leicester, Wolves, Crystal Palace and I'd wish we could one day be on a level playing field in terms of stadium, facilities, spending power, income and so on, and we are now.

If we do go down, this isn't little Reading any more!

We have a solid foundation here at Reading Football Club and it's one that can only help continue to take this football club forward.

The stadium, training facilities, youth academy, dome, hotel, conference centre, it all makes this football club one that others now look at like I used to them, and think "I hope one day our club can be like theirs".

Football is about promotion and relegation, winning streaks and losing streaks... So what if we go down. The football club will still be here next season and many of us will still be as well, and we'll still look forward to each and every game as we always have, meet up and have a drink and have a good day out win, lose or draw.

This football club is better off than many others in the Championship and that of the country too. I'm proud of that fact, I know you are too.

I hope this topic hasn't offended anyone.

Much love.

Thank you for putting some perspective on the doom and gloom people seem intent on spreading around. You are 100% correct, we have a great foundation now, and a great basis for building on what we have already achieved.

Good post.IF we do go down it will be strange being one of the big boys in the championship but then again we might get to go on the best away day in the league at Fulham. Not all bad then.Plus if we were to go up again other infrastructure improvements such as new station at Greenpark.New Reading station and Junction 11 work should enhance the match days experience on sold out match days

Good post.

It would be nice if their were some traffic cops helping supporters drive in and out of the ground, half the problem is the traffic lights are set no different to a non football night. Maybe if the experience was made smoother more people may stay til the end. :o

puts it in perspective really. yes we'll all re-new our seaso's, yes we're all have a few beers, yes we're all have a good day out win lose or draw and yes we're all still be supporting Reading.

forget all the doom and gloom - lets be safe in the knowledge that we all support a brilliant local club.

this is probably the most positive thread I have ever seen!!

Good post, fans are entitled to question the club this season, especially after the January transfer window, but Madejski is still in credit during his time at Reading.

Our ground is still smaller than the three you mentioned and smaller than many others in The Championship.
If the club had been positive mid-way through the promotion season and set the ground extension in motion they could have capitalised on a full stadium last season and for most games this season.
The extra revenue would have helped the funding of higher quality transfers- in and we might have now a few more years of Premiership football and income to look forward to rather tha as we are-hanging on by our fingertips.

As it is we are looking at being a 2-season wonder with a ground that is no longer that special and with no likelihood of a extension.
Even if we stay up when would the extension be completed for the revenue stream to increase?

I agree with Coppelled's general point that the club has temporarily exceeded our expectations and like most posters I am delighted to have seen our club play Premiership football but regrettably feel that the club has not made the most of a fantastic opportunity to have Premiership football for longer rather than for a short visit like the Oxfords and Swindons of this world.

Given the totally uncalled for slating he has received on other threads, it is worth pointing out that ALL of this is down to Madejski.

We may still have all the buildings but if we go down will we have the money to staff them?

Running all this infrastructure on gates of 12,000 and diddly squat TV money ain't gonna happen easy.

Two words: parachute payment

As for gates of 12,000, you're about 5,000 short of reality.

I read in either the Mail or Express this morning about JM trying to sell the club and also that the Reading public were indifferent about the club before last year.

I think not?

?

But, on the flip side, the positive side, we as a football club will have learnt so much and will all be better prepared next time around, and with the infrastructure we have at Reading, there WILL be a next time!

Love you, love me back.

Where are you getting this 12,000 crap? We were averaging 16,000 plus before the promotion season. If anything, we'll have a few more bums on seats, especially if we start off well and look to be in a promotion race again!

The cost of tickets will inevitably hinder the attendances, unless tickets are reduced, but that wont happen, and that's a topic for many of the other threads any way.

unless the football is so bad for the rest of the season that it puts fans off for life, there's no way that relegation will see us with less fans than when we went up. Even if a load of those who only came along because we were in the premier/going up find alternative things to do on a Saturday afternoon, a fair percentage will have been gained as fans. The idea that everyone who didn't support Reading before we started doing well will suddenly cease to support us if we go down is just nonsense.
