Medical emergency in the East Stand

by Huntley & Palmer » 12 Mar 2009 23:40

Nearest block to the North/East separation during the Charlton game, anyone shed any light? Would have been about 30 minutes into the first half, about 7 or so medical staff on hand for someone. Stewards were seemingly asking questions of people in the rows above, I hope this is not another case of RFC fans throwing stuff at their own fans

From speaking to a bloke at work it appears that one of our fans, who was rather pissed at the time, managed to fall down the stairs on his way to the concourse. In the process of this he managed to do a forward roll and accidentally kick another fan in the head, causing said other fan to be knocked out.

Cue mass panic in the stewarding ranks as they actually had to do some work rather than moaning about people for standing up.

LOLLY!Thanks for solving the mystery.

That is great skills. They're lucky it wasn't Hugo falling down the steps else their head would've ended up in the car park.

I wonder if this is linked into the removal of Pete the Pissed Pirate at half time

Quite possibly.

I didn't see any forward roll action, but about half-way through the first half, I saw this guy wearing an eye patch and using a cane came back from the toilets, supported by his friend.

About ten minutes later, a female steward went up to him and had a chat, then left. He shouted out something like "well, if you're going to chuck me out, then get it over with." Then two stewards asked him and his friend to leave. There must have been 10 more stewards by the concourse entrance.

Due to the dire nature of the game, my nosey daughter pain more attention to what was going on behind us rather than the game and gave me the following detail at half time.

Medics gave attention to a guy on the back of his head - this would square up with the drunk bashing him on the head. Young girl was taken out on a trolley, looked very pale, but not sure what the problem was.

I noticed that the guy with the eye patch appears behind the goal in the pictures from the game on the OS.

Pete The Pirate looked like he'd shanked a few people in his time, so let's be careful what we say about him. That cane could be for show, bit like Keyser Soze in The Usual Suspects.

When we turned up about 7.30pm, there were two blokes stood outside the East Stand turnstiles who were clearly already really pissed and still drinking beer out of cans. I commented to my son that there was no way the stewards were going to let them in. If the stewards did let them in    & so much for ground regulations/safety etc!

yes, and one of them, the aforementioned Pirate Pete, was trying to predict the crowd attendance for the night.

Sorry Pete, you were 1014 out.

Far more of a hazard than people standing though (these two guys were extremely pissed) and equally against ground regulations. Had they been seen like that in the town centre on a Friday night they would have probably have been rounded up by the boys in blue.

Right under my nose, and the pirate was involved !

The eyepatched guy and his mate were running up the stairs, one thing led to another and a lass broke her leg. Then the pirate wasn't there in 2nd half ?

I can only assume that due to this incident, the tangos are cracking down on pissed people at the footy.

I make this assumption as on Saturday I was confronted by a tango and asked how much I'd had to drink before going through the turnstyles. I replied that I'd had 2 pints with the meal I'd just eaten in the pub. He blatently didn't believe me, so I got my car keys out and said that I was driving so there's no way i could gett pissed. He still didn't believe me, but let me through whilst giving me the evil "tango look".

Part of me wanted to say "fcuk you, you cocksucking jobsworth" but I didn't cos
a) I wasn't pished and;
b) (now this is where hindsight would have been handy) I wanted to see the match

Worryingly though, he thought I was pissed after 2 pints?? Thats not good from my point of view. Christ knows what I look like when I've had 5 or 6. And I've deffos been to footy with 5-6 pints in me before.
