Pepe the Horseman
URZZZZ Phillips just offers so little for England , both JWP and Lingard should be ahead of him in the pecking order

Not quite sure I understand the logic of Southgate today, for a last warm up game, not even close to what our squad will be

Assuming the City and Chelsea lads were still unavailable, but agreed.

JWP needs to be in the squad, he's the only thing close to a set piece specialist we've got. Could be the difference off the bench in the tighter games.

Agree, Phillips was an empty shirt, JWP far superior.

Do think Phillips is a decent player overall but for Leeds and not for England. If you compare the two teams’ styles, they’re almost chalk and cheese in terms of tempo

Friendlies don’t necessarily tell you a lot but neither game was particularly convincing. Seem to follow a general trend that we struggle to break down teams that sit back, and then just lose anyway to the better nations. Said before that the over reliance on set pieces is unhealthy and nothing much has happened to change that

Obviously not many of the XI out there still start the group games but didn’t think they did enough to stake a claim. Mings was a liability in particular and Sancho just never seems to do anything in an England shirt. Rashford was lively on the other side but lost it time and time again. Neither Rashford nor Sancho would be in my XI

Would probably start with:

Pickford

James
Maguire
Stones
Shaw

Bellingham
Rice

Foden
Mount
Grealish

Kane

Did want to fit Saka in somewhere but maybe he’d be best off the bench for now

Ascotexgunner I throw my pennysworth in to this debate, and I know I'll probably get slaughtered.
I have a problem with International teams taking the knee, not club teams, just international teams and to me it looks like gross hypocrisy and here is why......

Next year these players will be playing in a world cup in a country that bribed its way to get the tournament.
They treat African workers like slaves and openly abuse them. The country is openly sexist and homophobic to the point where you can still face the death penalty for being gay, or having extra marital sex. Women are second class citezens and political opponents are imprisoned without trial. There are so many things wrong in that country I find it incredible that the home nations and the big nations are doing nothing with the clock ticking down, to change this.
Some countries are protesting by wearing TShirts by I hear nothing from and home nations players. If just one of them stood up and said, "I'm not going" that guy would be such a hero. I'm just angry and staggered by the sheer silence from the FA in particular. They could take such a lead in changing this.....and after all they were diddled out of 25 million quid, as were Australia who lost 50 million dollars in a rigged FIFA vote.

You should worry less about what other countries do or think, lets just get politics out of UK sport, all lives matter.

That performance was abysmal, only positives Grealish and Johnstone.

Why would you start with 10 ?

Maguire is already ruled out of the group games, apparently

I just find it pathetic - every fcuking major tournament we take injured / just returning players. Every fcuking time they are a liability.

When will we get a manager with the balls to stand up and say no?

So you take the politics out and what are you left with? A state that has committed the international crime of bribery on a massive scale and an organisation who have got away with it with noone actually being properly prosecuted and a sporting event going ahead as if nothing happened. Crime pays in your world.

This is going to be downfall of Southgate.
Preparation seems to be farcical for England. Most of the other countries have played their best players and given all their players games. Most of the England first selections have hardly kicked a ball since the season ended.
Going straight into a tournament having had no England experience or competative knockabout is a tad dangerous.

Six of the starters will have played last Saturday (assuming Chilwell is selected, otherwise Shaw played today)
Walker, Stones, Foden, James, Chilwell & Mount

Pickford and Kane played Wednesday

Rice (assuming he plays) played both Wednesday and today

Leaves a centre -back (Coady or Mings and they both played Wednesday and Mings today) plus presumably another midfielder (who knows, but James Ward-Prowse did himself no harm today)

I don't think it's that bad, particularly given that it would have been impossible to predict two English teams in the Champions League Final when the games were arranged.

That’s almost a positive post on Southgate’s England side. That’s not allowed on here is it?
Jeez you lot need to judge him on what is about to happen in the Euros and not on friendlies or Nation League games. I think England will do well and reach the final.

Good point, political PC gestures seem more important to Southgate.

Roy Keane on Jordan Henderson

“Clearly Jordan’s not fit - I don’t think he should be involved… I’ve heard people say they want him around the place - for what? Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song? Does he do quizzes in the evenings?”

Keane is spot on.

That penalty was a really cringey moment yesterday, Henderson desperate to take it and show just how fit and eager to impress he is. Was all ready to run to the crowd and kiss the badge and lap up the applause like the returning hero that he is (in his mind).

Ben White gets the call up. Should have been included over Mings to begin with.

Wonder if Southgate has panicked after realising how much of a liability Mings is. Does anyone have any clue what the starting line up will be on Sunday?

I'd go something like:

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Coady
Shaw

Rice
Bellingham
Mount

Foden
Kane
Grealish

But think that's way off. We really do have some great attacking options, but the defence is a massive concern.

Wouldn't be unhappy with that, tbh.

Would also be fine to swap Shaw with Chirwell if they go that way but I would prefer Shaw to start.

Got a feeling he might go 3-5-1-1 for Croatia.

Think it will be:

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Coady

Trippier (RWB)
Rice
Bellingham
Mount
Chilwell (LWB)

Foden

Kane
