England women starting well, after a few dodgy friendlies and a disappointing opening game. Do we actually have an English team who turn up for the biggest occasions here?

Overall the football quality has been utterly shambolic

We're done as contenders if Walsh is out. Too many big injuries - not sure any team could overcome it

Today Infantino does not feel a woman, after being shown to have left after only a couple of days of the WWC, heading back to his holiday retreat in Tahiti, after having watched every game of the men's WC.

Not a big fan of this count down to kickoff malarkey.

It’s a football match not a rocket launch. You don’t need to count it down. Just start playing.

Japan are looking ominously good.....

They have Norway in the Round of 16; that should be well worth a watch.

Odd goal disallowal for our 4th against China - makes me think I don't understand the offside rule. Cross comes in, Bronze clearly offside so walks back and doesn't compete.

Russo and defender challenge for it - ball bounces back to Bronze who passes to James to curl into top corner.

Given Bronze didn't compete for the original cross, does that not constitute a new phase of play? So she is onside? I think the ball may have bounced off Russo as opposed to the defender, but I wasn't aware that made a difference. But I would hope that a FIFA qualified ref knows the offside rule better than me.

With VAR at this tournament they are trialling mics on refs to explain their decision, but she simply said it's offside. Not much of a useful explanation.

I just don’t get women’s football. The standard, although drastically improving, is abysmal.

You could put a non league fully grown male goal keeper in and that team would instantly become the best team in the world.

It’s true, goal is too big for them. 90% of shots would be easily saved.

Sorry guys, but the last few comments are out of order.

Women's football should be judged like women's tennis, women's cricket and any other sport where the physicality of the competitor is important.

Some of the football has indeed been dire, but that doesn't mean ALL of it is.

Some of the keeping has been comical, but then some of the saves have been genuine quality as well.

And its not as if there are never any howlers in men's football is it?

Frankly, the standard in the womens game is improving all the time, and it is great to see established footballing nations such as Italy, Argentina and even Brazil getting knocked out and seeing teams like Nigeria, South Africa and Jamaica going through.
