Striker Henrik Larsson fought back the tears as he said farewell to football and admitted his decision to retire had left an "emptiness".

The Swede took to the pitch for the last time in Helsingborg's 2-0 Swedish League loss to Djurgarden on Wednesday.

He was given a standing ovation from the crowd.

The 38-year-old scored over 300 goals during spells with Helsingborg, Feyenoord, Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United.

Think he did enough to be classed as a footballing legend. Hope he goes into management of some sort and gets to return to Celtic where they adore him.

Great player, was wasted in the SPL but proved himself at two of the biggest clubs in the world and did superbly for Sweden - one of the best goalscorers I've ever seen.

Just as he announced his retirement, he also announced it whilst playing for me on Pro Evo. His last game of the season the other day, he scored a hat-trick and finished with 29 goals. I was emotional.
