Wax Jacket it's not really fair to compare but I bet where the women win is in things like professionalism, not being an uttercunt, and having at least half a brain.

The standerd has improved since I first watched a womens game 20 years ago. Kelly Smith would get in to any mens Sunday league team.
The one thing I do enjoy about womens football is the attitude no swearing or arguing refs decisions, no rolling on the floor trying to get another player sent off. It's at times almost a return to a bygone age where they play for the love of the game and pride in playing for your country. So for that reason alone I shall be watching the England games at least in the upcoming World cup.

Anyone see the Mexican goal? LOLz @ women goalkeepers, maybe they could use 5-a-side goals?

Seal No the academy boys would still win.

Having watched women's football a few times, a significant number can't actually kick the ball half the length of the pitch off the ground, that is a basis strength issue which will always hold them back....

How often do Spain kick the ball half the length of the pitch off the ground?

I did; the best part of 30 yards out. Good shot, but the keeper made a total horlicks of it.

Are women 'keepers now any worse than the men 'keepers we see on clips from old games in the early to mid 20th Century? I don't think they are.

They are improving and that will doubtless continue, espec as the pro-game develops.

It would be interesting to consider how far you'd have to go back to find an England men's team that would get beaten by the current England Women's team. I don't know, but 1910, 1920 maybe?

Definitely not a century.

When did the men's pro game start?

mid 1880's.

"Organised clubs began to be established in 1855, and the Football Association was established in London in 1863. Professional players were admitted the Football Association leagues in the mid-1880s. Shortly after, the game became dominated by professional teams."

So it could be argued that women are making faster progress than men did because after 40 years of pro football the male 'keepers were still worse than women 'keepers are now.

All I'm really suggesting with this tack is that although the women's game gets a lot of misogynistic disrespect chucked at it everything I see suggests it is progessing at a rapid rate.

Women have been unable to catch since before they started playing football

Obvious flaw is that men have already been through the evolution of goalkeeping so they can pass on tips, tricks, and best practices to the women in a way that nobody did to them.

And the women are still absolutely bobbins at goalkeeping.

It's not a flaw, it's a good reason.

That's brilliant, you can only assume that she heard a whistle go for something, at a stretch offside maybe? Its really not very clear on the highlights but from the behind the goal angle it does look like the ref looks over (her head is obscured by the post but the body position looks right)

The defender wasn't really under any pressure and the other defenders barely react when she catches it, have to say that although the women's world cup has received precisely no coverage here if Australia had gone on to lose the game we wouldn't hear the end of it!

In other women's football news, the French team may be in a bit of bother having posed naked for Bild in order to draw attention to their sport. Yep, that's bound to help people take you seriously.
