Orion1871 Real Madrid can only draw away to Las Palmas, already 4 points behind Barca, and looking very disjointed in attack with Vinicius and Mbappé not working at all. I doubt Oli Mcburnie bullying Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao was on anyone's la liga bingo card this season.

I could definitely see him headbutting them in the tunnel.

I'd missed this, but the official name of the French top division this season is Ligue 1 McDonald's.

Wasn't long ago that it would get commented on how almost no English players would go abroad, but its amazing how quickly its become so much more common that its almost not even noteworthy now.

AC Milan started with 2 english players at the weekend, and a 3rd came on as a substitute. If you'd said that 20 years ago it would have blown my mind.

Get the feeling that Rafael Leao didn't like being criticised by Di Canio on pundit duty for yesterday's game

They had Blissett, Hateley and Wilkins in the 80's.

Not all English but Sampdoria had Francis, Souness and Brady about the same time.

Not to mention the post Italia90 exodus - Platt, Walker, Gascoigne, Dichio etc

It think it mainly died down when the big money really started to roll into the Premier League and when English clubs started winning in Europe again in the late 90s

Listening to a Euro pod right now and they say Sevilla have a huge fight on their hands to not be relegated this season. Poorly performing team, highly paid players they can't offload, club finances a mess etc. didn't realise it had got that bad.

Have to say that I didn't have on my bingo card for this season British midfielders running the show in Europe's top leagues, but Gallagher got his first goal for Atletico at the weekend, and McTominay and Gilmour have been widely praised for their performance for Napoli too.

Hat-trick for Kane, as Bayern thrashed Holstein Kiel 6-1. Means that in rare scenes, someone has taken away one of Erling Haaland's records. Kane got to 50 goal contributions in the Bundesliga (39 goals) in just 37 matches, well clear of Haaland's record of 42. And Kane might have another record in his sights too - he has 40 goals in 35 Bundesliga games. Haaland is the fastest to 50 goals in the league, in 50 games.

Sporting Lisbon with a GD of +17 already after 5 games

only just seen that Jonjo Shelvey has left Rizespor and moved to newly promoted Eyupspor in Istanbul, who are managed by Arda Turan and have started the season well.

Founded by a man from Yorkshire, I believe.

Ages. Thibault Courtois is only 32. And this one really surprised me - Leroy Sane is only 28. Which is silly, he's been playing for 20 years.

The Arjen Robben conundrum, as I like to call it.

Torn on Carroll. He had his moments, not least that peach of a header for England against Sweden. But ultimately feel like he's found himself a 15-year career on the back of an excellent 18 months at Newcastle (some of which in the Championship), and then not a lot else at all. The nine goals (all comps) he got for us in 2022-23 his best contribution since.

Joining Man United put the kibosh on Erikson's career. Just like numerous others over the past decade.

**Non Europe alert**

Copa Libertadores semi final first legs over the last 2 nights:

Colo-Colo 1-1 River Plate
Fluminense 1-0 Atletico Meneiro
Botofogo 0-0 Sao Paulo
Flamengo 0-1 Penarol

The Penarol result a real stand out there. The Uruguayans getting a win away to one of Brazil's big boys. Penarol have won only 3 of their last 25 Copa Libertadores away matches.

Thats 5 Brazilian clubs, 1 Argentinian, 1 Uruguayan and 1 Chilean
