I still am, and will forever be, completely bemused at the section of Liverpool fans behaving like this

It's simple. Go on your way, but don't fcuk the club over on the way out. Mbappe publicly refused a new contract at PSG. The club, and supporters, knew where it stood. The main reason he refused to sign was so that RM could get him on a free. TAA has done the same, but privately, without notifying the club until the end of March or the fans until a month later - this has been in the works for some time, engineered to save RM money and likely put more in TAA's pocket.

Kane, Mac Allister, Coutinho - signed deals and left within a year. Their club got paid.

I understand the point being put across as to why a section are unhappy. I just disagree with it, and I don't fully believe it either tbh (I want no beef though!)

That's fair enough (also no beef-o!).

As far as football grudges/annoyances go though, I think it's a pretty fair one.

Royality creeps In A player who has given and won everything and wants to better himself and gets treated like that. Says all you need to know about the self entitled bin dippers.

No real idea on the previous up there about what’s gone on before with Trent and the fans but some are obviously upset with the manner in which he has chosen to leave while I’m also sure there’s plenty who have the opposite view. To be honest they’re all entitled to an opinion and unless you are a Liverpool fan from Merseyside you can’t really know so just let them get on with it. It’s nothing to do with us.

Yep, just been looking at some of their forums and the general issues doesn't seem to be that he's leaving, but the way he's done it - intentionally running his contract down without either committing or saying he's definitely going, which will cost the club a hefty transfer fee.

Pretty much what the Liverpool fans I know have been saying; not angry at him leaving but at the way he's engineered it. They expect a little more respect from the vice captain who's been at the club for 20 years.

Isn't that more an ownership issue? They seem quite reluctant to negotiate new contracts with a lot of their major players until the current contract is in the last 18 months. Can hardly blame players for starting to look elsewhere. Plus its Liverpool ffs, its not like it a club struggling to get by that needs big players sales every year to keep afloat. Those same Liverpool fans would be screaming at him for bleeding the club dry if he had signed a lengthy new contract and kept getting injured/lost form and was just taking up a squad place for 4 years.

I see Tyrone Migs was doing Tyrone Mings things again at the weekend. No doubt it was yet another accident cos he's not that type of player...

Didn’t United fans have a go at Rooney at some point or other, seem to remember something about them even turning up at his house at one time?

Coventry's Milan van Ewick is known for his long throws. So for tonight's second leg in their play-off semi final, Sunderland have brought in their pitchside LED boards to shorten his available run-up. Cheeky.

Won’t they only go round 3 sides though due to tv revenue?

Nothing like having faith in your team to win without getting into that childish nonsense. Don't want to wish injury to any player but it'll serve Sunderland right it one of their important players collides with the hoarding and has to go off.

Could be fun, two sides with diabolical play off records going head to head

Sunderland’s PO record:

1990 - Div 2. Lost final to Swindon Town (but were promoted later due to Swindon’s financial shenanigans)
1998 - Div 2. Lost final to Charlton Athletic
2004 - Div 2. Lost in semi to Palace
2019 - Div 3. Lost in final to Charlton Athletic
2021 - Div 3. Lost in semi to Lincoln City
2022 - Div 3. Beat Wycombe in final
2023 - Div 2. Lost in semi to Luton Town

Winston Biscuit Perfect example of where leaving the flag down when someone is offside risks someone getting injured

Yes, really don’t get it, if a Lino thinks a player is offside then flag, otherwise it’s just an accident waiting to happen - can you imagine the uproar if a flag is kept down and Saka/Salah/Haaland or someone goes through from an offside position and there’s collision with a keeper that sees their knee totally knackered?

when the Forest matey went crashing into the goal post yesterday after he was clearly offside and the game was allowed to continue on for a bit, I honestly thought 'here we go, tomorrows sports headline has been written' as I assumed this was going to be a big deal. surprised its not been tbh

the player has now had to have urgent surgery on an abdominal injury caused by the incident (and is in an induced coma awaiting another op on it today!)

Maybe this will become a big deal now

Hopefully he gets better. It does seem that they're making so many changes to the game and almost all make it worse, more complicated, and more difficult to understand.

I said a while back but you can't boil a sport down to a science experiment, where every micro-incident is a binary "correct" and "not correct". They're are going to be mistakes, no matter what. They're continually screwing about with the rules, technology, bringing others in and each time they're are very signifant failures.

Ironically, even when they do work, they're really frustrating. For example, a player offside as his knee cap is just beyond the line - offside. All celebrations stop. Or goal of the year, crowd go nuts, and of course it goes to VAR.

BEFORE: Days and Days of analysis, highlights, arguments, moaning about a ref missing something and calls for VAR

NOW: Days and Days of analysis, highlights, arguments, moaning about VAR not making the "correct call". Funnily enough, many times it's still a 50/50 split. Proving once again, it's a subjective issue most of the time. Is that a red card - person a: of course..... person b: no.

I'd rather the game be just more spontaneous, flowing, more emotional.

It’s plainly stupid for a linesman to not raise a flag when a player is offside. If the Lino has made a mistake then tough, the safety of players should be more important.

Football was better without all the technology everywhere, really don’t care if something is factually correct or not, much rather have the subjective human calls made at the time than technology interfering and then idiots with 20 zillion camera angles and endless slow-mo’s still getting it all wrong!

Football. Sigh. Terrific angle of Sunderland's late winner here. Camera runs into the chaos.
