Winston Biscuit what I find odd is that you want someone on co coms or punditry who is skilled and knowledgeable, and can give insight to the viewer based on their experience. but the tv companies seem to have allowed themselves to feel pressured by the world of online football content which has become more and more stats based, and so now you get people with a great knowledge of the game, being handed meaningless stats to talk about, because with no context or explanation, the stats literally have no meaning

The people brought onto TV games should be counter to that world, and should be there to explain the human element of what is happening and why. Not just being told to discuss the 'impactful passes in middle 3rd' stat which someone behind the scenes has put up on the screen

It all started with XG everyone seemed so excited by (many still are( by XG

I hate XG with a passion, and judge people strongly on whether they buy into it (fall for it) or not.

Same, I agree with most said in this thread I like the odd stat like we all do but so many now are just ridiculous or add nothing,

A stat that tells you something valuable, giving you an angle you may well have not been able to see is interesting.

XG very much comes under stats for the sake of stats. Youngsters are armed with pointless stats these days as they can't seem to be able to just watch the game and and appreciate/critique what they have seen.

'Scanning stats' might be the all time worst I have ever seen.

It is quite likely that Saka and Gordon will be England's first choice wide players for this year's world cup and obviously part of their jobs will be to create chances and score goals.
2 stats that amazed me when I heard about them.

Firstly, as of a few days ago Saka had gone 358 days since providing an assist in Premier League games.

Secondly, it is a full year since Gordon scored a goal in open play in the Premier League.

So, get on both of them to make amends this afternoon when both of their teams have winnable home games.

Gareth Barry currently top with 653 apps

Anyone want to hazard guesses as to which goalkeeper has the most PL appearances?

I gather that Brighton fans are not that enamoured with him coming on late and possibly disrupting the shape of the side just so that he can clock up appearances.
Today they conceded in the 96th minute.

David James was around for quite some time and played for a lot of clubs as well as Liverpool but maybe some of those appearances were before football was invented so wouldn't count.

Correct, it is David James - 572 appearances (5th highest overall). Next highest keeper is 8th place Mark Schwarzer (514).

I thought that to start with but Real Madrid?
I then thought about the fair haired forward we had on loan who played in Germany as well as for us but didn't he play for Barcelona?

Or that ex-Aberdeen midfielder that we had who was hopeless.

Uwe Hartenberger?

Mark McGhee played for Reading and for Aberdeen against Bayern (QF) and Real Madrid (F) on the way to winning the ECWCWC back in 1983. Jean-Marie Pfaff (Bayern’s Belgian international keeper) said after their tie at Pittodrie, “We realised that we were in for a tough match when looking at the Aberdeen players in the tunnel we noticed that none of them had any teeth!”
