Extended-Phenotype Don't buy your answer, Streete. Good players can still shine in poor teams

I think that it is a little different at international level, Phenotype. Mainly because international teams play - what - 12 fixtures a year as opposed to a 38 game season. 'Training' takes place once a month rather than 3 or 4 times a week. Less opportunity to gel.

For the same reason I think that's why Chelsea has been something of a graveyard for strikers in that time (Drogba being the exception).

Drogba kind of struggled at the start, it was only in his 3rd season that he really excelled. I do recall issues when he first joined that he was perceived as not scoring enough. IIRC, it was the two wingers in that season that really contributed to things. Certainly, Drogba was kind of the pivot around which Lampard, Robben and Duff played quite freely.

When Drogba was scoring, he was playing upfront, alone and was strong and good enough to do it by himself.

Sure, but that doesn't avoid the feedback-loop I pointed out. I can't see how you can blame other players for Lampard's form, if Lampard is just as to blame for their poor performances. At somepoint each player needs to take responsibility for their own form - so what is Frank's problem?

Isn't it the case with Lampard that he just shoots a lot?
Watching his Chelsea games you know that, regardless of penalties or free-kicks, he will always shoot whereas more rounded ( ) midfielders will often look to play in others that are better placed.

With so little of his work being as a creative midfielder maybe he should be assessed more as a forward when comparing his goalscoring achievements.?
A very effective player in a Chelsea set-up where none of the others are so extremely selfish.
Incidentally he had a fair record for West Ham as well and I remember 'Arry saying that Frank would always be a good bet as first goalscorer.

He certainly has scored a lot of goals in his career but as an England player there aren't many games where you look back and think that he made many game-changing contributions.

They all perform better when playing with better and more technically gifted players. The main problem with the Lampard/Gerrard dynamic (imo), is that neither one of them has the discipline or intelligence to perform effectively with each other, when faced with anyone half-decent. Lampard was most effective for Chelsea alongside Essien and Gerrard for Liverpool with Alonso.

Extended-Phenotype
Vision A significant number of World Class strikers who have scored everywhere they've been have struggled at Chelsea even with their vast array of creative talent

That's because Lampard, goals aside, isn't particularly supportive in midfield - as we see for England. Can't remember the last time he fed a decent through ball or broke a defence open with a pass.

Considering he created the most chances for England in the recent WC qualifying campaign, I'd suggest you get down the quacks for an Alzheimer's test m8

If that is the case then I am happy to concede I've perhaps not been paying as much attention as I should. If you can provide a link to those stats I'll have a gander, bud.

Lampard suits the fantasy football generation who only value the amount of goals a player scores as the indicator to the quality of the player.

There is no denying he's a great goalscorer but he's not one of the great midfielders the way some of the same players from his generation like Xavi and Pirlo are.

Hi m8, if you could provide a link to the stats/report/article/anything which states Lampard created the most chances during WC2014 qualifying, I'd be grateful.

It was in The Sun pull out a few weeks back. Most chances created during 2014 WC qualifiers. HTH.

It would be more helpful if you could post a link to anything or anyone other than yourself mentioning it. As it is, no offence, it doesn't really help, no.

I'm only asking because you brought it up in a debate about Lampard. Seems stupid to reference something as fact without providing a source. Or we could all just make up whatever we liked.

PS. I have done a search. Can't find any reference to it.

Take him, don't take him. You're not going to win it either way.
