wolsey Eastville in the 80's was horrible, so was (is) Priestfield

But Bay View (East Fife's old ground) is probably the most depressing place I've been.

It must have been really bad, because this is the new Bayview Stadium:

Probably still the most attractive property in Methil (assuming they are still there)

I actually popped into the old Bayview. It wasn't that bad. But the new one has to be one of the worst backdrops ever for a ground. Stamford Bridge in the early 80s was fairly grim.

Ashton Gate before they re-developed it; vast open terrace with no roof and indeed no cover offering zero protection from the horizontal rain with intermittent hail lashing in off the mouth of the Avon, and Senior missing a penalty. One of the 3 most depressing places I have ever watched football at (the others being Boundary Park and the old Leeds Road stadium at Huddersfield)

Apparently, Celtic had to pay compensation to the families of the deceased where the overhang of the cantilever blocked the view to Heaven.

I'd forgotten that - always depressing and always a disastrous trip.

Blundell Park in the early 90's, the ground, the area and the football was just grim.

Yeah I know it's in Cleethorpes, but the word Grim seems to fit.

floyd__streete One of the best things I have ever seen in a football ground* occured at Luton.
*=I'm a Reading supporter. You didn't think it would involve a great goal or piece of skill, did you?

I remember going to the old Shay ground at Halifax with the speedway track around it. Also Chesters old ground Sealand Road? They would always be the worst supported team must have gone there once with just over a 1000 people in the place. That was depresing.

Manor Ground!! Only ground I know with about 18 different stands and a slope on the pitch like no other.

Refereeing games there of running up the line it bloody killed me with 10 mInutes to go. Tough games.

I find many of the modern arena soulless and uninspiring, just look at how dull the Liberty and Cardiff City stadiums are compared to the couldrens of noise that were The Vetch and Ninian. That's not to say all change is bad, The Emirates for example is everything a modern stadium should be.

For me though the word depressing is the key and nothing will beat Stamford Bridge. No atmosphere outside of the ground, and every other person is a complete tourist, making sure they get their prized photo and picking up any old tat they can get their hands on from the overpriced merch stalls. Inside the atmosphere is poor for a prem side, and full of spoilt egotistical fans. I remember a few years back one such fan standing up and rubbing a note between his fingers showing off the apparent wealth of the club, not only was I shocked that he was proud of the apparent success that has been bought, but the note itself was only a fiver which shows not everyone there was made of money. Furthermore there is nothing more cringeworthy then seeing 'fans' taking out their mobile phones to take a picture of some overpaid spoilt footballer when he comes over to take a corner or throw in. Also seems that the fans there are fickle and seem quick to turn on their own, no wonder Anelka and Alex want out.

*Starting to think it's the fans that make it depressing and not the ground itself, but either way that place is a microcosm of everything that's wrong with modern day football.

A shout out to Loftus Road aswell for being cramped and not being able to see the goal line. It redeems itself though for having some soul, low tin roofs, fans that can have a laugh, and plenty of good pubs and a Nandos near by! :)
